Sullivan's right on track, but in the meantime . . .

Former Bucyrus International Inc. CEO Tim Sullivan, who now serves as an unpaid consultant for the state of Wisconsin working on issues of workforce development, just released a much-anticipated white paper that includes a range of recommendations that will help the state address the pressing skills gap issue.
Implementing the recommendations in that report is one of many initiatives now underway that I believe will ultimately succeed in resolving the state's workforce issue. In the meantime, manufacturers can focus on honing their competitive advantages by finding new markets for existing products, developing new products and reducing waste throughout their entire enterprise.

Streamline access to new markets with exporting

Exporting allows manufacturers to tap into new sales in foreign markets - breathing new life into existing products and spreading research and development costs over an extended product lifecycle. By selling to domestic markets alone, manufacturers are competing for a dwindling market pie that gets fiercely more competitive every day. Projections show that by 2030 US middle class consumption will be down 14%, while consumption in China will increase by 14% and India's will grow by 23%.

Senator Herb Kohl - Manufacturing Champion

When long-time U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl decided that he would not seek re-election for a fifth term, industrial companies in Wisconsin and across the country began bracing for the departure of a true manufacturing advocate.
Kohl announced his retirement in May, and his decision set up a competitive open seat race in Wisconsin. That race is drawing considerable national attention, particularly among manufacturers because of Kohl's long-standing commitment to the sector.
