March 2010 e-Newsletter
Greetings!

This month we have something from the heart, something for the heart, and a couple of opportunities for you to get some sweet treats! We hope you'll love it!
Client Spotlight
We would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to one of our previous customers, Janet Stewart. She passed away January 26th after many years of battling breast cancer. We witnessed her strength and generosity of spirit first-hand when we did a room addition for their family several years ago. All throughout the project she kept upbeat, despite the fact that she was undergoing treatment at the same time. Project scheduling would sometimes have to be worked around her medical appointments, but Janet never let it bother her - she was truly one of the most easy-going people we have ever encountered.

When not rooting for her favorite sports teams, she donated lots of her time to her church and her daughters' school activities. She was a master at coordinating festivals and bake sales. She was always looking for ways to better the world around her and using her abundant energy to raise money for the causes that were special to her.

She was fond of saying: "Never feel sorry for yourself; there's someone else out there worse off than you. Dying isn't something I'm afraid of. I've come to accept it. Leaving behind the ones who aren't ready for me to go is the hardest part."

Those she did leave behind - her doting husband, Ken and beautiful daughters, Janelle, Vanessa & Natalie - were right by her side the whole way. Janet was a beautiful person and she will live on in the hearts of all of us who knew her.

This month, in her honor, we want to help raise the awareness for those foundations fighting to find a cure for breast cancer. Let's all follow Janet's example and dedicate ourselves to ending it now!
Breast Cancer Awareness
While progress has been made in recent years, breast cancer remains the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women worldwide, and in the US there is a new diagnosis every 3 minutes. We would like to spotlight two worthy organizations which are active in the fight against breast cancer:

Susan G. Komen for the Cure - Founded in 1982 by the sister of a breast cancer victim, it has become the largest source of non-profit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world. Events like the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure and partnerships with corporations such as Yoplait and American Airlines have helped raise over $1.5 billionfor breast cancer research, education and health services. Find out how you can donate time or money on their website.

Avon Walk for Breast Cancer : In It To End It - Avon Walk for Breast Cancer is the Avon Foundation for Women's largest annual fundraising initiative, raising more than $725 million worldwide. The series of 9 Avon Walks for Breast Cancer are held each year from April to October. The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer raises awareness as participants spend an entire weekend walking 39 miles through cities and towns around the country. The nearest event is Santa Barbara on the weekend of September 11 - 12, 2010. Visit the website for more details.
American Heart Association

Recently Paul and Lisa's son Adam did his part for the community as well when he participated in the "Jump Rope for Heart" fundraising event at his school. The kids gathered pledges for their jump-roping, and afterwards learned about heart health. Proceeds benefit the American Heart Association's research efforts to help kids with heart problems.
