Bringing the T64 Home:

DAC Aviation International wins the competition to support T64-3 engine R&O for the Canadian Department of National Defence

April 5th, 2011 - Montreal, CanadaT64

Over a decade ago DAC Aviation entered the R&O market as a Transport Canada Authorized Maintenance Organization specializing in CT64/T64/P4D support. With three Buffalo DHC-5 aircraft flying humanitarian missions in East and Central Africa, DAC was looking for a cost effective solution to reduce engine repair/overhaul turn around while maintaining the highest level of quality. With six engines in operation and a support facility designed specifically for their maintenance, DAC was able to increase both dispatch reliability and aircraft readiness within the first year of the program. Personnel were hired on the basis of having an intimate knowledge of both the Buffalo aircraft and the T64 product line. To this day, DAC has retained over a century of combined Buffalo airframe and engine experience.

Our production managers, Efren Lasangue and Dwight Wagner, bring with them 54 years of that combined experience. Prior to becoming one of the company's key technical leads in Montreal, Mr. Wagner supported the DAC fleet in Lokichoggio, Kenya as a maintenance engineer. Mr. Lasangue brings with him over twenty years of T64 experience, having started his career as a Lead Hand at Rolls-Royce Canada. In fact, many of our employees began their careers working with the Buffalo and have been with DAC Aviation since the company's inception in 1998. It is therefore with great pride that we now continue the legacy with an opportunity to support the Canadian Department of National Defence.

Having won the competition for the repair and overhaul of CT64-820-3 engines, associated components and accessories for the DND, DAC now prepares for contract award and program transition.  "There is a sense of anticipation and a lingering excitement encircling the DAC facility these past few weeks, as if awaiting the arrival of an old friend" says DAC President, Alain Desrochers. "DAC Aviation's success, both as an aircraft operator and maintenance provider, began with the Buffalo and the CT64/T64/P4D program. We are thrilled to now offer our services and experience to the Department of National Defence."
