Got SOC?
Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) provides Active-duty, Guard, Reserve, Spouse, and Dependent students the adaptability to carry their degree program with them no matter where they go.
Understanding the highly mobile lifestyle and unpredictable schedule experienced by those affiliated with the military, the TCC Center for Military and Veterans Education (CMVE) is prepared to provide military-related students with the advantages of a SOC Student Agreement. As a SOC school, once you complete at least 25% of your associate degree coursework (approximately 5-6 courses, depending on the degree chosen), TCC can issue the Student Agreement and serve as your "home college" while you complete your degree requirements. Benefits of the Student Agreement include: - Degree Program Portability: If you must relocate before completing your degree, with TCC as your home college, your TCC Military Programs Advisor can help you select appropriate TCC online courses, or courses offered by other colleges, which can be transferred back to TCC to apply to your degree completion. Many courses provided by other SOC colleges and universities have already been pre-approved for transfer to TCC.
- Degree programs aligned with your military experience: Through the SOC Degree Network System, TCC offers a host of degree programs which take advantage of American Council on Education (ACE) recommendations for college credit based on your rating, MOS, or other military experience and training.
- Protection against course duplication: Your TCC SOC Student Agreement will clearly list how your military experience, any prior college coursework, and other forms of non-traditional credit apply to your TCC degree. You'll never have to guess what classes you need.
No matter where you are located, once you have completed your degree program requirements, TCC will award your degree! Your TCC SOC Student Agreement is a powerful tool that can ultimately save you significant time and money. And, although the Veterans Administration has not yet chosen to subscribe to the SOC program, TCC offers many comparable benefits to our Veterans. For more information about the SOC program or to apply for a TCC SOC Student Agreement, visit http://www.tcc.edu/military and select the "SOC" link. If you have further questions, please feel free to call the TCC CMVE at (757) 822-7777 or email us at vbsoc@tcc.edu. |
