New Process to Request Transcripts
TCC has contracted with Docufide by Parchment, a company that specializes in transcript processing in order to deliver student transcripts in a more efficient and timely manner.
Effective immediately, students will be able to request a paper or electronic copy of their official transcript directly from Docufide by Parchment at a cost of $3.00 (electronic) or $5.00 (paper). Overnight delivery will also be an option for most students who have an emergency. The fee for overnight delivery service will be determined by Docufide by Parchment based on delivery location. The costs of the first two copies requested by each current and former student will be paid for by the college. Students may also make a request of their official transcript in paper form in person at any campus Enrollment Services office for a $5.00 fee made payable at the campus Business office. Note that it may take the campus Enrollment Services office up to two business days to process requests of this nature. Therefore, for convenience and expedience, students in need of an official transcript can request their transcript through the web at http://www.tcc.edu/students/admissions/transcripts/. |

Meet Kerry Beers, the new Base Rep at Naval Station Norfolk
How long have you been the base rep at Naval Station and what is your experience working with the military?
I joined TCC as the Naval Station Norfolk Base Rep in January, 2012. I have worked in higher education for 23+ years, with previously held positions at Pensacola Junior College, Wayne State University and Old Dominion University. For the past 17 years my career has focused on the transfer and military student population while specializing in credit evaluation. Prior to joining the CMVE at TCC I held numerous leadership roles at Old Dominion University with the most recent being Director of Transfer Evaluation Services. I have never served in the military; however, I have been taken along for the ride thanks to my husband's naval career.
What can students expect when they come to your office?
It has been years since I held a position that allows me to interact with students one-on-one daily, and it has been refreshing to connect with students again in this way. I approach every student as an individual with unique circumstances and attempt to tailor information or services provided to meet each student's needs. When a student visits the TCC-NSN Base Office the staff hopes he/she leaves feeling confident with their decision to pursue a degree from Tidewater Community College.
What kind of classes are offered at Naval Station for TCC Students?
We are very fortunate to have two computer lab classrooms available at NSN which enables us to offer ITE courses and accommodate academic faculty who rely heavily on instructional technology for their courses. More and more military students are seeking online courses due to their schedules but there are some courses in which I believe the traditional classroom setting is still very beneficial to the learning process, such as mathematics and natural sciences. The mathematics offerings will increase at NSN this fall and I hope the students will take advantage of the greater selection. In addition, we are trying to accommodate the natural science requirement for some of the degrees by offering GOL 105 with the lab this fall and following up with GOL 106 in the spring.
What is your favorite thing about your job?
I love working with the students but because I have spent the majority of my career overseeing operations I am obsessive about looking for ways to enhance or streamline processes. Right now I am seeking to better track student retention specific to our base and improve communication with the NSN students. Also, keep an eye out for a TCC-NSN Base Office Facebook page coming soon. |
