Important Info Regarding Navy TA Policy!

The Navy has instituted a new policy for tuition assistance documents:

"Because of PII concerns, beginning Sat. 25 Jun. the SSN will no longer display on printed Navy and Marine TA authorizations. In its place will be blanks for the service member to supply SSNs for schools."

What does this mean for you? Before turning your TA document in to a TCC Base Representative or Business Office, you must write either your full social security number OR your TCC student ID number in the blank on your TA document. TA documents will not be processed without one of these two numbers present.

Important Info Regarding Tuition Rates:

Tuition rates for the Fall 2011 Semester have changed.

Please visit this link to view the changes before filling out any tuition assistance or financial aid paperwork.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are active duty and are stationed in and living in the state of Virginia, you are entitled to the in-state tuition rate. Please see your Base Representative for assistance receiving the in-state rate. A copy of your orders, your military ID and proof of your residence (utility bill, mortgage payment stub, lease agreement, etc) is required to prove eligibility.

Updates to the Post 9-11 GI Bill: what you need to know

In January 2011, President Obama signed into law the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Improvements Act of 2010.

There are several changes that may affect your benefits. Here are a few highlights from the Act:

  • Housing allowance is now payable to students (other than those on active duty) enrolled solely in distance learning. The housing allowance payable is equal to ½ the national average BAH for an E-5 with dependents.
  • Allows reimbursement for more than one "license or certification" test (previously only one test was allowed).
  • Housing allowance is prorated by the rate of the student's pursuit (rounded to the nearest 10th). A student training at a rate of pursuit of 75% would receive 80% of the BAH rate.
  • All public school and in-state tuition is paid

For a more comprehensive list of changes, visit the GI Bill Website.
