Greetings TCC Student!

The Spring 2011 Semester is underway, but if you weren't able to get into classes in January, don't worry - the 2nd 8 week session will be starting in March and there's still plenty of time to get into one of those classes. Check out the important dates section below to find out when you have to be registered and when classes begin.
In this issue, you will also learn how to view your grades and order an official transcript online.

We have also highlighted some of the major changes in the new Post 9-11 Veterans Education Assistance Improvements Act. Make sure you read that story and follow the link to the official Veterans Affairs website to find out all the details.

We hope your Spring Semester is going well so far, and don't forget that if you need assistance with classes, enrollment, or counseling, a Base Representative is there to help. Check out the left hand sidebar for information on all our Base Reps' locations and hours.

The tuition deadline for Spring  has already passed, but this doesn't mean that you can't still register for 2nd 8 week classes.

To register for a late start class, you must have your payment processed before you register and your payment must be turned in to a business office by close of business on the same day that you register for a class, or you will be dropped from the class.

You may still re-enroll in the class after you've been dropped, but you will continue to be dropped every day until your payment is turned in to a campus business office.

Please note - military base representatives' offices are not business offices, and base reps will not be able to process late start payments. Please take your payments into any campus business office on the same day you enroll in a class to avoid being dropped.

Find out how the recent changes to the GI Bill affect you and your family.

President Obama recently signed the Post 9/11 Veterans Education Assistance Improvement Act (GI Bill 2.0) into law.  What does this mean for you?  Lots of small changes have a big impact on the way the bill works.

Five of the top changes that will impact active duty service members:

  • Active duty service members, and spouses to whom they have transferred benefits, will now be eligible for the $1000 per year annual book stipend.  (Paid at a rate of $41 per credit hour.)  (Effective 10/1/2011)
  • Funds may be used for a wide range of educational options, including graduate work, apprenticeships, certificates, licenses, and vocational and technical training.  (Effective 10/1/2011)
  • Funds may be used for placement exams such as the GRE, LSAT, MCAT, ACT and SAT.  (Effective 8/1/2011)
  • Funds may be used for multiple licensing and certification tests.  (Effective 8/1/2011)
  • NOAA and PHS forces will now be eligible to transfer their benefits.  (Effective 8/1/2011)

Did you know . . .
MyTCC

MyTCC allows you to view your grades and order transcripts?

There's no need to visit a counselor or call the Registrar to see your grades or order a copy of your official transcripts. You can do all of this online, 24/7 through MyTCC.

To view your grades, log into MyTCC (at the top of any www.tcc.edu page), then click on the second option: VCCS, SIS. This will bring up a new window with the Student Information System. From here, click on "Academic Records." Options here will include "Apply for Graduation," "View My Grades," "Request Official Transcripts" and others.

There is no fee to order an official copy of your transcript. You can request to have a copy sent to yourself or to another institution. Remember, once you open your official transcripts from the Registrar, they are no longer considered official and will usually not be accepted by another school or institution.

Also remember that grades can take up to two weeks after a class has ended to be posted to your transcript. Questions regarding grades that have not been posted should be directed at your class professor.

We'd love to hear from you!
