Meet Willa Priest!
Base Representative, Joint Expeditionary Base - Little Creek & Fort Story
How long have you worked for TCC?
I was hired in August 1981, so I guess that would be 29 years now!
How long have you been the base rep at Little Creek and what other jobs have you had at TCC?
I have been base rep at Little Creek for ten years now. I was originally hired as the Assistant Director of Continuing Education at the Virginia Beach campus. I was in that position for a number of years, where I rotated between different bases, and also worked with business and industry, and organized the campuses' non-credit offerings.
As a Base Representative what do you do on a daily basis and what kind of services can you offer TCC students?
As a base representative, I work with active-duty and dependents initially introducing them to which programs they can pursue at TCC, how to apply, and later on an ongoing basis regarding what courses to take and other academic advising issues. In my position, I also assemble the course schedule, arrange for classrooms and work with the on-base faculty.
What kind of programs does TCC offer at Little Creek?
TCC has done specialized programs on base in the past including Early Childhood Education, Industrial Supervision and Homeland Security, but at present we just concentrate on general education requirements for transfer programs.
What do you like best about your job as Base Representative?
I really, truly enjoy working with the military and their families. They have encountered so many obstacles in the pursuit of their education that they really appreciate their college experience. |
Learn what MyTCC can do for you . . . Search for Spring 2011 Classes. MyTCC is your 24/7 access to all your TCC information and tools. The MyTCC button, located at the top of any www.tcc.edu page is your one-stop shop for student E-mail access, Blackboard, Student Information System (SIS), and more. By accessing the Student Information System, you can view a live version of the Spring 2011 class schedule. Unlike the printed schedule, this online schedule will tell you exactly how many students have registered for a class and what classes are full or still available. To view this schedule, log into MyTCC, click on VCCS SIS:89, then go to "class search." At the next screen, make sure Tidewater Community College is selected as your school, then choose Spring 2011 as the semester, select the button that says "Search for classes"and click "GO." At the next screen, input the class information that you are looking for, (ie - ENG 111 at the Norfolk campus). You can select whether you would like to only see classes that are still open and available and you can also select from additional search criteria including the days of the week a class is held.
Once your criteria is input, click "Search" and a list of classes meeting your criteria will be listed. Once open registration has started, you will be able to select classes to register for right from this list screen. You can also click on a class section number to see additional information about the class including any prerequisites. If you experience any issues with the online schedule or registration process, contact the TCC Helpdesk. |
