Are you an active duty or military dependent woman interested in a non-traditional career?
The TCC Women's Center is offering a "Women Can!" Session. Women of all ages will be invited to come out and learn all about non-traditional, well-paying careers. The session
will be held on Friday, April 16, from 9 a.m. to noon in the Forum, Building A, at
the new Portsmouth campus.
Attendees
will learn about career possibilities with wages ranging from
mid-$30,000s to upper $40,000s in areas like trucking, welding, auto
technology, heating and air conditioning, computer networking and law
enforcement.
The
morning will feature videos showing women at work in real-life examples
of successful careers. Representatives will also be present to discuss
these careers and answer questions.
TCC
offers training opportunities that prepare women for these careers in
two years or less. Women of all ages are invited to come and explore
the possibilities. Space is limited. Call 822-7554 to reserve a seat.

Videocall your deployed loved one - for free!
TCC now offers free videocalls to Iraq for families of deployed military members. Military families in Hampton Roads who are separated by deployments can now video call loved ones in Iraq - for free - from TCC's Chesapeake campus. Tidewater
Community College has linked with Freedom Calls Foundation to provide
video-conference service to Camp Taji, Camp Fallujah, Al Asad Air Base,
Camp Victory (Baghdad) and Camp Taqaddum in Iraq.
Family members can simply fill out a video call form on the TCC website or call TCC's
Information Center at 822-1122 for assistance. Scheduling is contingent
on connectivity to Iraq and facility availability. TCC arranged
its first Iraq videocall at a nursing student's pinning ceremony last
May. The student's husband, serving in Iraq, requested the
video-conference through Freedom Calls, which then asked TCC to supply
the electronic wizardry. The TCC and Freedom Calls team pulled it off
as a surprise - lowering a huge screen onstage, revealing the Marine's
face to his wife and a packed theatre.
Pleased
to share TCC's technology for the overseas connections, Richard
Andersen, TCC vice president for information systems, looks forward to
helping more families. "TCC President Deborah DiCroce embraces outreach
to the community as part of the college's mission," he says, adding,
"This sort of project is a joy to implement."
