Summer Reading and Math

I hope that you all are enjoying a rejuvenating summer vacation. We are coming up on the middle of the summer vacation. So, this is a good time to check in on your child's progress with the Summer Skills math book and book report. The purpose of continuing to read and practice math over the summer is to help keep sharp the skills that were learned in the past school year. The best way to do this is to spread out the work over the course of the summer (rather than doing it all in the last few days before school starts, for example). Please take this opportunity to check your child's progress.

Also, a great way to motivate your child to read is for you to read, too. We are encouraging all of our parents to read, "Smart But Scattered"- by Peg Dawson and Richard Guare and/or, "The Whole Brain Child" - by Daniel J. Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson. Both are terrific books to help us all as parents to better understand our children and how we can help each one to reach his or her potential.  - Mr. Burroughs

Supply List

Please note, the supply list sent out in June was in error.

Please refer to the corrected (and much smaller) version here. I apologize for the confusion.

Office Depot 5% Rewards for SHS

When purchasing your school or office supplies this summer, you can help SHS by letting the cashier know that we participate in the 5% rewards program. You can either give them our school ID #70105922 or you can just tell them it's for "Sacred Heart School" and they can look it up for you.  Office Depot scrip can also be purchased online.

The Health Room Needs Your Help to Care for Your Children!

Please take a few moments to read the attached information from the health room regarding both immunizations and student medications.  Then plan some time this summer to take care of updating your child's immunization records and/or receive any needed shots. Also provided are the requirements, deadlines and procedure to have student medications available at school.

Used Uniform Drive

Used uniforms can be brought into the school for the next two weeks during summer office hours, 9am-2pm (except Friday 7/27).  We are trying to collect as much as possible so we have a good range of sizes and items at the used uniform sale on August 7th, 4-7pm.

From the Development Office

Annual Fund Update 2011-12

Thank you to everyone who gave so generously to our Annual Fund this past year! Many of you donated more than you had pledged and we are grateful for your unwavering support. I also appreciate the many people who fulfilled their pledges in June before you left for the summer, it all adds up. If you were unable to get your pledge in for last year, there is still time to fulfill it. You can mail in your donation, drop it off at the school office or donate online at Give Now . The final number is $212,906 which is just short of our pledged amount of $219,250. The good news is that we had $50,324 in corporate matches! You all are amazing at doubling your efforts! Some final thank you letters went out in June and the final batch will be sent out in the next week via email. If you have any questions about your donation, please contact Alison Scott in the Development Office.

Kindergarten and First Grade Summer Play Dates

We want to extend an invitation to our incoming kindergarten and first grade families to join our current families at any of the play dates listed on the attached flyer.  This is a great way for your children to make friends before the start of the school year, as well as for you to meet other parents.
