Extra Minutes Survey - Please Complete the Survey by Tomorrow

Thank you to everyone who has participated in the extra minutes survey. We are keeping this important, two-question survey about where to add extra time next year open through tomorrow (Friday).

In a few of the completed surveys, there were some questions about why we need the extra time, especially since some schools seem to do their work in the same time or less. The answer is that at Sacred Heart School our goal is to give your child a complete education, not just meeting the minimum. We educate the whole child, with extra time for religion instruction and an ongoing commitment to music, art, and drama for all of our students (which some schools cut out in tough times), as well as Spanish instruction in grades 1-8 (which most schools do not have).

Fr. Steve Sallis

As you have probably heard at Mass last weekend and from your children, our new pastor will be Fr. Steve Sallis. He visited the school very briefly on Tuesday (but made his way to every classroom and office on campus). Fr. Steve, as he prefers to be called, is currently in his tenth year as pastor of St. Benedict Parish in Wallingford. He has extensive experience as a pastor of parishes with schools and with archdiocesan programs like the Archdiocesan Liturgical Commission, the Presbyteral Council, and the Fulcrum Foundation. He will begin his work at Sacred Heart beginning the week of July 2nd, with his first weekend Masses being July 7th and 8th. If you are in the area, please plan on coming to Mass one of those days to say hello and show your support for our new pastor

Spirit Week is NEXT WEEK!

  • Monday, May 21, is Neon Day (wear your brightest colors)
  • Tuesday, May 22, is College/High School Day (wear clothes that support your favorite High School or University)
  • Wednesday, May 23, is Blast from the Past Day (dress from any decade that occurred before this one even into the 1600s)
  • Thursday, May 24, is Crazy Outfit Day (wear the worst combination of clothes you can think of)
  • Friday, May 25, FIELD DAY!!, wear your family color!

All next week, we are running a food drive in support of the WIN Food Bank here in Bellevue. Students who bring in food can put their contributions in the box for their family "color" in the front lobby. All donations will be counted toward spirit points for Field Day. The most-needed items are: canned vegetables- corn, peas, & green beans; canned soup, canned beans- chili, refried, black, kidney, baked, and top ramen.

Please Volunteer for SHS Field Day - Friday, May 25th

This year the SHS Field Day will be held on Friday, May 25th from 8:30am to 3:00pm.  SHS Field day is a wonderful day of activities. The student families get to compete in a variety of fun events (volleyball, capture the flag, running relay, long jump, water relay, softball, soccer, kickball, and ping pong ball relay).  It is a fantastic opportunity for the students to show their "Sportsmanship" and "Team Spirit" and for the parents to volunteer and participate in the fun!

We are looking for over 50 parent volunteers to assist with the day's activities, be event runners, and serve lunch.

Volunteer Shifts Available

  • Full Day - Morning and Afternoon Activities, Scorekeepers and Runners
  • 8:30am to 11:30am - Morning Activities and Runners
  • 11:30am to 12:30pm - Lunch Volunteers
  • 12:30pm to 2:45pm - Afternoon Activities and Runners

Those interested in volunteering, email Kimberly Phillips with your shift availability and activity preference. Please let us know if you have questions.  Thank you in advance for you time and participation!

Annual Fund Reminder

Thank you to everyone who has fulfilled their Annual Fund pledge already.

We have about 100 families who have not yet done so, but there is still time. Please send in your contribution today. If you have questions, please contact Alison Scott . She can help you with payments, your current pledge balance, matching forms, or any other question you may have.

Yearbook Update - May 2012

Great news: the 2012 Sacred Heart yearbook is finished and is currently being printed. The yearbooks will be delivered to the school by June 14th at the latest. (Everyone please pray for an earlier delivery, in time for graduation!). We have sold all but 9 of the contracted copies so if you didn't purchase one yet, please email Jacqui Orgovan or Maria Garcini to reserve your copy. Yearbooks will be distributed via your student's homeroom teacher. Those of you who have unpaid balances will receive an email within the next week letting you know how much you owe.

Now we are turning our attentions to the Sacred Heart 2012 Spring Supplement. This will be a full-color, 8-page supplement covering the spring play (Seussical Jr), the Jogathon and field day. The cost of the supplement will be $5 each and there will be a limited number of these supplements available. The Spring Supplement will also be delivered to the school by June 14th. Please e-mail Jacqui or Maria to reserve your copy (if you haven't already done so).

Questions? Contact Jacqui Orgovan or 425-351-8329.

Congratulations to Hanna Roth (1st Grade) for receiving a First Place award in Group Poetry Recitation and Second Place in Individual Poetry Recitation at the 2012 Chinese Scholastic Competition.

Placement/Teacher Request Policy (rev. 3.7.11)

Our classroom teachers work exceptionally hard on classroom placements each year and a considerable amount of time is spent trying to balance classes academically, emotionally and socially.

Families with specific educational reasons may request in writing a classroom placement prior to May 24th for the 2012-2013 school year.  Such a request must go directly to the Vice Principal for students entering K-5.  Included in the request must be reasons why a specific teacher can best meet the individual child's educational needs.

Educationally valid requests submitted before the deadline will be reviewed and considered when making placement decisions. However, not all requests can be accommodated.

Changes to the Summer Skills Program

In looking ahead to summer, we have made some changes to our Summer Skills Studies Programs.  Please click on this link for details.

Buddy Families NEEDED

The SHS Buddy Family program is an essential program for new families.  We have around 40 *NEW* families enrolling in Sacred Heart next fall and we need "experienced" families who can be a supportive resource and help navigate a new family through their first year.  We ask that a Buddy Family forward e-mails about upcoming events, answer basic questions about polices and connect them with other families in our community.  Pre-K thru 8th grade new families need your help!

If you have any questions or are ready to sign up - please contact our

2012-2013 Buddy Family Coordinator Debbie Smith and she will be happy work with you!
