Update on Pertussis (Whooping Cough)
Over the past several weeks and days, news organizations have been reporting on the current "outbreaks" of Pertussis throughout the state. Current year to date statistics from the Department of Health record 88 confirmed cases in King County. It is also important to note that Pertussis cases "peak" over the summer and fall so the numbers will most likely begin to climb!
The Washington State Secretary of Health stated earlier in the month that "The vaccine (Tdap) is the best shot at protecting our community". This booster shot is recommended for ALL AGES over the age of 11 and it is encouraged that everyone please make arrangements to obtain the vaccine. Bartells, RiteAid, Walgreens along with other pharmacies offer the vaccination as well as physician offices and clinics. Please take the time go to the website and read the information on the Tdap vaccination and Pertussis. There have been no cases of Pertussis at SHS.
