Grandparent's Day Update

Grandparent's day is just around the corner on May 4th. Registration for Grandparent's Day is now closed. Most of the invitations have been mailed except for the final few that will be mailed in the next day or so. Please let us know if your Grandparent or Grandfriend is unable to attend. We are finalizing with the caterer and the seating arrangements. Please contact Alison Scott  if you have any questions regarding the invitations.

New 2nd Grade Teacher

After a lengthy process we have selected a teacher for the 2nd grade position next year. This was a very difficult decision as we had an overwhelming number of applicants and our final five were a very strong group of candidates. I wish that we had the resources to hire all five. Joining our team next year will be Caitlin Elsner. Caitlin received her B.A. from Seattle U. and her Masters in Teaching from the University of Portland. Please give her a warm welcome to Sacred Heart School.

State of the School Meeting

The State of the School Meeting will take place next Thursday, May 3rd from 6:30 to 8pm in the Moore Theater. This evening is an opportunity to review the year's accomplishments and to preview changes for next year (including changes in response to the suggestions in the parent surveys). Your attendance is important.

Grandparents Day, May 4th, is a half day with dismissal at noon. ESS will be available from Noon until 3pm for those who sign up. Please email Amy Davis to reserve a spot as space is limited. Students will need to bring a bag lunch.

Jogathon

SHS Jogathon Monday May, 7th Rain or Shine - Updated Information

This is our last fundraiser for the June 1st deadline of meeting the $225 requirement to SHS.  If you still need to meet your financial giving commitment to SHS, this is a great way to do so.  100% of the proceeds go directly to SHS!  80% of your collected pledges go towards your financial giving obligation!

The next PRIZE will be given for turning in your pledge envelopes on Wednesday, May 2nd!  Turn in envelopes at the main office or to your homeroom teacher.

If your entire class turns in their pledge envelopes with all monies collected by Monday, May 14th, then your entire class gets a PIZZA PARTY!

Those who collect at least $200 in pledges will be entered into a drawing for a brand new blue Apple iPod nano.

Check out the Jogathon website - You can also make donations through this link-so easy!

Remember to eat at California Pizza Kitchen the weekend of May 4th-6th.  CPK will return 20% to Sacred Heart School.  Take your CPK flyer (in your pledge envelope) with you to lunch or dinner. It's great food and easy money!

Parents:  If you would like to volunteer on May 7th, please contact Kristin Bridges  or Colleen O'Donnell.  It's a fun social event, and we would love to have you join us!

Changes to the Scrip Program  -  Effective Tuesday, September 4th,  2012

Why?  A review of our Scrip program has led to changes which will streamline the process for our SH community as well as Scrip volunteers.  We expect the new program will be more efficient and simpler for all involved!

How Will It Change? All parking lot and monthly in-Parish sales after Masses will be discontinued.

Scrip purchases will be streamlined and made available in three easy ways:

  • Order and/or re-load on-line (see SHS website for instructions).
  • Place a standing monthly order for the items you use frequently.
  • Submit a single order to Kerry Wyman at the SHS front desk for additional, one-time purchases as needed.

All orders (with the exception of re-loads) will be filled the first and third Monday of the month.   You can choose to have the Scrip cards go home with your child in their backpack (with a signed liability release form on file), or picked up from Kerry Wyman at the front office, at your convenience.

All current vendors will still be available and the percentages to the school and your fundraising obligation will not change.

When? New Scrip purchasing procedures will commence when classes begin in the Fall of the 2012-2013  school  year.

We hope that you find these changes to be more convenient for you and that you will continue to purchase Scrip next year.  If you have any concerns or questions please let us know.

CYO Soccer Registration for Fall 2012

Grades 1-8

It's time for Fall CYO soccer registration! All students entering grades 1 - 8 in the Fall at SHS or in the Parish are welcome to join us for the 2012 soccer season.  No experience required, only the desire to learn and have fun!  Registration is online and registration deadlines are as follows:

Dates                       Cost

Registration             May 1-31          $75 (per child); $65 for each child after the first

Late Registration     June 1-15          $90 (per child); $80 for each child after the first

For those who miss the normal and late registration periods, there may be an opportunity to register during the first two weeks of September (9/1-9/15) - only if space permits. Registration acceptance is at the discretion of the soccer coordinators and will be handled on a case-by-case basis. The late registration fee of $90 + a $50 (per family) administration fee will apply. Families new to the school and/or Parish are not subject to the late fees.

Scholarships are available through CYO, contact Katie Frigon, Athletic Director.

Coaches and assistant coaches are always needed and appreciated. This year we are introducing a new policy - if you coach or assistant coach we will refund your child's registration fee at the end of the season (max 2 per team). For any questions on what this entails please contact:  Lisa Ludwig - Grades 1-3 or Kim Schaefer - Grades 4-8

Kindergarten

Kindergarten registration is open from May 1st until the August 24th.  The Kindergarten program is a great tradition to introduce our children to team sports and the great Sacred Heart community.  The fee is $30 per child and you can register online.
