Food Drive and Free Dress Tomorrow

The WIN Food Bank here in Bellevue is in great need of food to serve the increased number of people who rely on them. The items most needed at this time are: canned soup, canned vegetables (corn, peas, green beans), macaroni & cheese, peanut butter, boxed pasta meals and they are completely out of baby food. Any student who brings in two nonperishable food items may have free dress tomorrow.

After School Hours Survey

The survey time ends tomorrow. Please e-mail the survey spreadsheet(s) to afterschool@sacredheart.org. - Mr. Burroughs

Registration information for 2012-2013

Both returning *and* new families will register for 2012-2013 school year through our on-line process (same as last year) which will take place in March.  You will receive emailed instructions in March which will walk you through the steps.  Feel free to contact Susana Knapp if you have any questions at 425-451-1773 ext. 156.

Lost and Found

Our closet has finally maxed out with un-marked clothing so it is time to donate to the wonderful organization we support in the Tukwila school district which helps refugee families moving into our area.  Please take a moment (or ask your child) to go to the gym foyer to check the articles of clothing, shoes, accessories, etc. as we will be donating unclaimed items on Friday, March 2nd.  Remember that small and high value items are held at the front desk by Kerry Wyman.

Outstanding Teacher and Staff Awards

Do you know a teacher or staff member (office staff, teachings assistants, ESS, etc.) who should be recognized for the great work that he or she does here at Sacred Heart School?  Now is your opportunity to do just that. Nomination forms for our first Outstanding Teacher and Staff Awards are available online and are due Friday, March 9th.

Judges Needed for the Science Fair - Wednesday, February 29,  8am-3pm

Sacred Heart School is looking for community members, professional and experienced individuals with a background in the science fields, engineering and education, who could help judge experiments and research-based projects for a few hours at our middle school.  If you are interested in becoming a judge or would like more information about our student research expo, please download the SHS Science Fair Judge Flyer or contact our Student Research Expo Coordinators:

We are also actively seeking parent volunteers for setup, refreshments, project monitoring, and cleanup. If you are interested in volunteering, judging or would like more information about our student research expo, please contact our Student Research Expo Coordinators

Treats Needed to Help Our Sister School!

The Student Council will be holding a Bake Sale on Tuesday, February 28th after school to help our sister school in Nicaragua. All proceeds will go to help buy needed supplies for the school such as books, paper, pens and even desks. Right now the school is more like a covered area, so our funds might even go to help put up some walls and windows!

Please drop off your donated goodies to Ms. Covington's room on Tuesday morning, and then remember to swing by after school in the upper and lower lots to help purchase all the treats so we can help our "neighbors" in need.

Correction

The special bulletin sent out on Monday thanking our auction volunteers and recognizing our "graduating" 8th grade parents was not signed by mistake. It was Mr. Burroughs who sent out that message, although the reply address was Mrs. Scott.  I apologize for any confusion.

- Mr. Burroughs

Staff Change

I am sorry to have to announce that Linda Lavin, our school nurse, has had to say goodbye (please read her note here) to Sacred Heart School due to the requirements of her current position at Swedish Hospital (her full-time job). Ms. Lavin worked about one day per week and oversaw some of the administrative aspects of our health room and coordinated with parents regarding care plans for students with injuries or illnesses. She will continue to provide consultation to the school on an as-needed basis.

I want to assure you that Mrs. Anne Marie Thompson, who has been our health room coordinator for eleven years, will still continue in her position. Mrs. Thompson has been the one who runs the day-to-day activities of the health room. There will be no change in the excellent care provided to your children when they are sick or injured. You will notice that Mrs. Thompson, however, will now be coordinating care plans. Please direct all health room questions to her.

- Mr. Burroughs

Auction and Fund-a-Need

The auction was a huge success this year attended by over 350 parents and friends of Sacred Heart School. It takes a village to create an event that large and complex in scope. David sent out a wonderful thank you to our auction chairs, committee chairs and 8th grade families earlier this week and I would also like to reiterate my thanks to the many wonderful volunteers who made our auction so very special this year. I especially want to thank all three chairs, Stacie Durbin, Christine Kerr and Laurie Sergeeff who put in countless hours and tireless commitment to make the event as wonderful as it was. The good news is the event was a huge financial success, we are still tallying the numbers and finishing the reconciliation but it is looking to be one of our most successful auctions.

The Fund a Need was also a great success and raised $103,800 in total which will bring our endowment to well over $600,000 which is fantastic. Our teachers and staff alone pledged over $4,500 to our school which I think is a wonderful testament to their dedication and commitment to our school. The endowment fund will just continue to benefit our school year after year as we receive the interest off the principle. A big thank you to Fr. Pat for inspiring everyone to look at our school and know what it means to our community. Please make sure you submit a matching form to your corporation if you donated to the Fund a Need as it qualifies for a full match. If you have questions on how to do that, please contact Alison Scott in the Development Office.

A Green Thumb is Needed!

The Sacred Heart Environment Committee is the group of men and women who are responsible for the enhancement of our Church appropriately to coincide with Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter and Pentecost. We especially need someone to water the plants during the week and help design the layout of the plants and flowers for big feasts. You'll enjoy meeting new people; discovering what goes on behind the scenes; and gain a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment in knowing that you were a part of creating the beauty for each liturgical season.

To be a part of this great team please call Sr. Mary Jo 425-450-3906

If you have content to include in future newsletters *please first obtain administration permission* by e-mailing your submission into the school office.  Newsletters are published weekly and content must be received by Tuesday evenings. - Tracy Takeuchi
