Important SHS Application Deadline - TOMORROW!!

If you have any friends that are considering SHS for their children, please let them know this very important deadline information for new families:

Applications for new families applying for 1st -8th grades for the 2012-2013 school year are due by Friday, February 3rd.  In-school admissions testing for these applicants will take place between February 6th - March 2nd.  We have limited availability in several grades and plan to fill those positions from this applicant pool, so we encourage interested families to get their applications in by February 3rd.

Applications are available on our website under our admissions tab and can be emailed directly to our office or printed and mailed.  Cost is $25.  Feel free to e-mail our Admissions Director, Susana Knapp, if you have any questions or by phone 425-451-1773 ext. 156.

Pre-Kindergarten & Kindergarten 2012-2013

We are now accepting applications for our Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten programs for the 2012-13 school year.  Please click on the above links for more detailed information on the application process and deadlines.

After School Hours Survey

Over the next two weeks we are asking our parents to collect information about your children's after school activities: homework, tutoring, extra-curricular activities, ESS, etc. We are collecting this information to help us in planning our curriculum and instruction, after school programs, etc., and to help us all get a better sense of how our students are spending their non-school hours. Click here to access the spreadsheet. Please enter times as accurately as possible. If you have more than one child in the school, please fill out a form for each one. At the end of the survey time, please e-mail the spreadsheet(s) to [email protected]. That will allow us to keep this survey information separated for all of the other e-mails that we receive.

 - Mr. Burroughs

School Counselor

We are pleased to announce that we will be adding a part-time school counselor to our staff next year. Mrs. Kari Boyd has been working here at Sacred Heart School as an instructional aide in 2nd grade and a supervisor in our ESS program for three years. She is completing her internship and master's degree in school counseling this June. Her exact duties will be determined after we complete a thorough needs assessment in the fall.

Outstanding Teacher and Staff Awards

Nomination forms for our first Outstanding Teacher and Staff Awards are due Friday, March 9th. We are now accepting nominations.

The major dates for the 2012-2013 school year are now on the school calendar (1st day, last day, vacations, etc.).

Finding Kind - A Movement and Documentary

In February 2009, while attending Pepperdine University, two young women recognized a problem, and they decided to do something about it. Lauren Parsekian and Molly Thompson, both affected by female bullying, decided to create a documentary and founded a non-profit that would ultimately change the lives of hundreds of thousands of people across America. The girls have gone on three national tours, spreading their school assembly program, documentary film and Kind Clubs in hundreds of school and communities across the country.

Mercer Island High School will have two screenings of the documentary:  February 6th, 2pm and February 7th, 7pm.  Please see more information on the MI Parent Edge flyer.

From the Parish

A GREEN THUMB IS NEEDED!

The Sacred Heart Environment Committee is the group of men and women who are responsible for the enhancement of our Church appropriately to coincide with Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter and Pentecost. We especially need someone to water the plants during the week and help design the layout of the plants and flowers for big feasts. You'll enjoy meeting new people; discovering what goes on behind the scenes; and gain a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment in knowing that you were a part of creating the beauty for each liturgical season.

To be a part of this great team please call Sr. Mary Jo 425-450-3906

If you have content to include in future newsletters *please first obtain administration permission* by e-mailing your submission into the school office.  Newsletters are published weekly and content must be received by Tuesday evenings. - Tracy Takeuchi
