The White House Salutes Nine Catholic Educational Leaders
On Wednesday, January 25th, the White House honored nine leaders in Catholic education from across the country as Champions of Change for their service to their communities and our nation. One of the honorees is Joseph Womac, who has served as the Executive Director of the Fulcrum Foundation for the past eight years. He has worked tirelessly on behalf of at risk students and Catholic schools in jeopardy of closing. Under his leadership, the Fulcrum Foundation has raised $60 million, which has led to over 10,000 low income students being sent to tremendous Catholic schools in western Washington State. Thanks in large part to Joe's efforts and Fulcrum's programs, Seattle is among the largest regions in the country that has not closed any Catholic schools and instead has opened schools during the past decade. Last year, every single high school senior supported by the Fulcrum Foundation graduated. Of those, 99% are now attending college. Read Joseph Womac's inspiring entry - Increasing Access and Supporting Catholic Education on the White House Champions of Change blog.

Smart with Art - Winter Session Begins Today!
There's still time to sign up now for our new Smart with Art Winter Session. We will focus on art from a variety of different cultures. Explore the Art of Mexico and create a yarn art painting. Discover Afrikan Adinkra Printmaking, take a whirl with sumi ink and brushes and create a Chinese Calligraphy work of art on rice paper, and much more! The first class was cancelled last week so the session will begin today, Thursday 1/26 from 3-4:15pm in the Art Room and run for 8 weeks (no class 2/23).
Cost is $140. Please register online at or drop off a check made payable to Smart with Art at the school office. Class is open to students in grades K-6. All materials provided. We do suggest packing an extra snack on afterschool art days, artists tend to get hungry!
Contact Amy Friedman or 206.850.8443 with any additional questions.
Finding Kind - A Movement and Documentary Film
In February 2009, while attending Pepperdine University, two young women recognized a problem, and they decided to do something about it. Lauren Parsekian and Molly Thompson, both affected by female bullying, decided to create a documentary and founded a non-profit that would ultimately change the lives of hundreds of thousands of people across America. The girls have gone on three national tours, spreading their school assembly program, documentary film and Kind Clubs in hundreds of school and communities across the country.
Bishop Blanchet will show the Finding Kind documentary on January 29th, beginning at 3:00 pm followed by a discussion led by the producers Lauren Parsekian and Molly Thompson. Please join us. Male and female alike can learn from this moving documentary. We are asking for a good will donation of $5.00. Please see more information on the The Finding Kind homepage.
