Happy Thanksgiving
Each year, after we say grace, I read this Thanksgiving Proclamation to my family to remind us all of the many blessings we have received as individuals, as a family, and as a country. As with most of his writing, this piece from Abraham Lincoln is a real treasure. So, I pass it along to you so that you might use it with your family. -Mr. Burroughs
Picture Retakes
Picture retakes will be on Tuesday, November 29th at 10:30am.
Retakes are free. If you are unhappy with your child's photo let his/her teacher know you'd like a retake by sending in the unwanted photo packet. For those that missed the original photo day you may download the order form here or they are available at the school front desk.
Shoe Liturgy, Dec. 16th 9:00am Mass
Each year the students at Sacred Heart School work to earn money to buy a pair of athletic shoes. These shoes are donated to Treehouse for Kids, an organization that provides for the needs of children in foster care. Students are encouraged to earn the money and then purchase a pair of athletic shoes in their size. The efforts of Sacred Heart students go a long way to help out those who are less fortunate. It's not too early for students to begin doing chores to earn money for their shoes!
Wreath & Poinsettia Pickup Reminder
Please plan to pick up your Poinsettiea, Wreath & Garland Orders in the Narthex on Friday, December 2nd after school. Thank you for supporting the Class of 2012!
Changes to School Milk Program
Beginning Monday December 5th, we will be both offering 1% white milk and non-fat chocolate milk as options during lunch. For many years, Sacred Heart School has participated in Special Milk program run by the USDA. By participating in this program, we receive reimbursement for milk purchased. The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 now requires each school in the program to offer at least 2 choices of milk every day.
**If you would like to purchase milk for your child for the remainder of the school year, the cost is $16.00. Checks payable should be made to "Sacred Heart School" and please drop off in the front office.
Please do not hesitate to let me know if you have any questions. Thank you - Ms. Gray

Yearbook Update
Your Yearbook Staff is Hard at Work...
... on this year's edition and we're getting excited about the yearbook. We have an enthusiastic student staff of three 7th graders and eight 8th graders assisted by several volunteer parents. We meet every Wednesday after school to plan layouts and put together pages. Our theme this year is "Going Places" and we've finished the cover design-it's going to be beautiful.
Yearbook Ordering
Most families have already paid for their yearbooks (via the Mandatory & Optional Fees form) and order forms for personalization and other add-ons will be available soon. One exciting "extra" that we will be offering this year is a full-color, end-of-year supplement that will include some of Sacred Heart School's best events (like the Spring Play, Field Day, the Jogathon, Holy Week activities, etc.) In the past, these events had to be left out of the yearbook because they occur after the book's final page submission deadline in late March. The cost of this SHS Spring supplement will vary according to how many copies we order (from $4-$6 each; the more we order, the lower the price). The supplements will arrive at the end of June and will be mailed out to anyone who orders. The yearbook order form will have more information.
Share Your Photos with the Yearbook!
Another exciting difference this year is a new, easy, internet-based photo sharing option offered by our publisher, Herff Jones. Anyone can upload photos for the yearbook by going to www.HJeShare.com and entering our school code: 2054360. You will be asked for identifying information that will only be seen and/or used by our Yearbook parent volunteers. The more candid photos we have in the yearbook, the better. Please make sure to only send pictures of school events & activities (including CYO sports) and try to make sure there are at least two SHS students in each picture. (After reviewing all photo submissions, the Yearbook Staff will determine the final selections for publication. Submitted photos are not guaranteed to be included in the yearbook. Please do not submit copyrighted photographs unless you hold the copyright.) So get out there and start shooting (photos, that is J) and then share them with the Yearbook.
Proud Parent Ad order forms coming soon
Each year the parents of graduating 8th graders have the opportunity to show their students how proud they are by placing a Proud Parent Ad in the Yearbook. The order form for these ads is not yet finalized but the ad prices remain the same as last year: 1/8 page - $40, 1/4 page - $55, and 1/2 page - $110. You may refer to previous yearbooks to see what the various sizes look like. We need to know how many pages in the yearbook to reserve for PPAs so please let us know ASAP if you are planning to place an ad and what size you want. (8th grade parents will be receiving separate communications from the yearbook staff via email soon.)
We hope you will enjoy this yearbook as much as we're enjoying working on it. If you have questions about the yearbook, please contact Jacqui Orgovan or (425-351-8329).
