Teacher and Staff Member of the Year Recognition

We are introducing a new program this year to recognize outstanding performance by teachers and other school staff members. This program is modeled on Holy Names Academy's long-standing program. Each year one teacher and one non-teacher staff member will be selected to be recognized and awarded a $1,000 award. Nominations will come from current and past parents, alumni, and current staff members. An independent committee will be formed to review the nominations and select one recipient in each category. The awards will be presented each year at the Sate of the School meeting in April.

To nominate a teacher or staff member, look for the nominating form on the school website under "About SHS" and submit your form by March 9, 2012. - Mr. Burroughs

Help Sacred Heart School to Recapture Our Cross Country Title!

Last year, Sacred Heart School lost the Cross Country Championship for the first time in 17 years. We can reclaim that title if we have everyone join us to compete in at least one qualifying meet and the championship meet. Everyone in grades K-8 can participate. Just entering and finishing the race earns points for our school's team. So, we need you! Please see the message below from Coach Murphy about how to register and where to go this weekend.

- Mr. Burroughs

Lower Parking Lot Morning Drop-off

When dropping-off students in the morning in the lower parking lot please observe the following procedures:

  1. If you are planning to park your car (e.g., to purchase scrip, attend a meeting), please drop off your children in the drop-off line and then drive around to a parking space. Please do not park to drop-off your children as they then have to cross the line of traffic.
  2. If students or parents are waiting to cross the traffic line, please follow the directions of the staff member on duty about when to wait and when to drive.
  3. Please do not drive pull out of the drop-off line and drive around the cars in front of you. Waiting in line for a few more moments helps to keep the drop-off safe for everyone.

Dennis Uniform Stamp Card Promotion

DENNIS Uniforms is starting a promotion using a Stamp Card which begins on October 1st. They will give customers who shop in-store between October 1st and May 31st a stamp card. When they get 15 stamps on their card, one for every $10 they spend in-store, they get to save $10 on their next in-store purchase.

2010-11 Yearbooks

We have a few extra yearbooks for sale. If you would like one please see Kerry at the school office. They are $32.

Also, if you did not pick up your yearbook at the Parish festival or yesterday in the parking lot, Kerry has them in school office.

Lost and Found

Our lost and found closet is located in the foyer beside the art room.  Please help us keep the closet from filling up by marking your student's name on articles of clothing, especially the SHS sweatshirts.

There are three easy ways to mark your student's sweatshirt:

1) Write your last name in sharpie on the white tag located toward the bottom left side of sweatshirt.

2.) Have your student's last name embroidered on the back of neck in small yellow/gold letters.

3) Use an iron-on label on the inside of the neck.

There is no way to return a sweatshirt to their rightful owner without a name.   Marked sweatshirts and clothing are returned to the student's classroom.  Unmarked sweatshirts will go into the used uniform closet and unmarked clothing will remain in the closet until December and then donated. Please also mark lunchboxes on the outside.  Unmarked lunchboxes are only kept in closet for few days then disposed of.  Small lost items, especially those with high value, are turned into the office.

Activities

Attention 8th Graders (and 7th Graders, too!)

Be part of the 2011-12 Yearbook team!

The Sacred Heart Yearbook is recruiting 7th & 8th grade students who are interested in helping produce this year's yearbook. Applications will be available from your teachers (and on the school website) on Friday, September 23rd. The deadline for submitting applications will be next Tuesday, September 27th. The yearbook staff will meet every Wednesday after school, from 3:15-5:00pm. Our first regular meeting will be Wednesday, October 5th. (We may need to hold a shorter meeting (3:15-4:15pm) on Friday, September 30th to handle some deadline-sensitive decisions.) This will be a competitive recruitment-we are limiting the staff to 10 students. This is the first time we have included 7th graders on the yearbook staff and we're looking forward to working with both grades. If you have questions about the Yearbook or what is involved in being part of the staff, please contact Jacqui Orgovan by e-mail or 425-643-4272.
