Annual Parent Survey

I am grateful to everyone who participated in this year's survey. We do read your feedback and consider it carefully in our planning for the upcoming year.  Over the next few weeks I will be explaining some of the initiatives and changes that we will be making in response to your feedback. So, please keep an eye out for the FTH this summer.

First, I am happy announce that we will be extending our Spanish program to grades 1-3 and expanding Spanish in grades 4 and 5 to two classes per week.  Mrs. Barbara Ennis, who has been so successfully teaching 4th and 5th grade for several weeks now will teach the primary Spanish classes. Ms. Jones will continue to build on the programs she has started and will teach eighth grade Spanish and one section of 7th grade Spanish. 6th grade Spanish and the other section of 7th grade will be taught by Ms. Amie Wellings. Ms. Wellings will be joining us in the fall to teach Spanish and religion. Ms. Jones will also be teaching language arts. They will be picking up these classes when Mrs. Bergere begins her maternity leave in the fall. The three teachers have been jointly planning and creating a curriculum map for Spanish that will cover 1-8 grade.

The new Lead 21 program will increase the challenge of our primary language arts curriculum. It also features a structure designed to better meet the needs of all students. This program has already arrived and teachers will be working with it over the summer to prepare for its implementation in the fall.

Improvements will be made to the school facilities over the summer including painting, new flooring, and new furniture in a number of classrooms along with repairs and updates to the big toys in the upper and lower parking lot.  Computers in the pods are being refurbished and replaced, as needed, throughout the school and non-working headphones are being replaced. Changes will be made to the school website to address specific concerns expressed the surveys.

Finally, Back to School Night will take place the first two nights of the new school year to better inform parents about the requirements, expectations, and plans for each classroom in the new year. - Mr. Burroughs

Congratulations to our Graduates!

As promised last week, we have posted a complete list of our 8th Grade Award Recipients on our website.

Good-bye to Ms. Wood

I am sorry to say that our First Grade instructional aide, Ms. Sally Wood, will be leaving us to undertake her student teaching program. Ms. Wood has been a terrific addition to our team this year, and we wish her every blessing in her student teaching! I am certain that Ms. Wood is going to be a great teacher. - Mr. Burroughs

Usborne Book Fair Thank You!

Our Usborne book fair was a great success! Students were enthused about reading and learning, and parents and grandparents expressed how much they liked the quality of the books. The fair sales were vibrant, leaving us with $2,800 in book credit to use for new books for the classrooms and the library! Over 200 new books have been added to the library and to the classrooms, including new science resources books for the middle school science lab and student books for middle school social studies classes.  Thank you for all your support! - Mrs. Hooper
