Dear Friends,

Our wish this holiday season is to ask each of you to spread the word about hunger and how it is on the rise...from Beverly to Middleton to Saugus to Woburn to Melrose to Stoneham to Wilmington to Peabody to Lynnfield to Lynn to Salem to North Reading to Reading to Melrose to Boston. The numbers are growing at all our neighborhood food pantries.

As you open your pockets this holiday season please keep these facts in mind:

The American Red Cross President and CEO Marsha J. Evans salary for the year was $651,957 plus expenses.

The United Way President Brian Gallagher receives a $375,000 base salary along with numerous expense benefits.

UNICEF CEO Caryl M. Stern receives $1,200,000 per year (100k per month) plus all expenses including a ROLLS ROYCE . Less than 5 cents of your donated dollar goes to the cause.

PUT YOUR MONEY WHERE IT WILL HAVE MORE IMPACT:

Gathering Change, Inc. is run by an all volunteer working board.  No salaries are taken. Donate on line or contact us at info@gatheringchangeinc.org and we will send you this beautiful card, free of charge, to send to someone special on your list with a donation envelope included.  All donations are tax deductible and stay in your community.

Inspiration Celebration
GCI Third Annual Meeting

ThirdAM_boardGCI recently held its third annual meeting at the Lynnfield Meeting House. This informative convergence of board members (pictured left), food pantry representatives, volunteers and friends honored GCI volunteers, recognized the group's achievements, expressed the necessity of further fundraising and announced upcoming events. Food pantries are places where people can get food if they cannot completely support themselves with their income; a crucial safety net with so many people out of work trying to patch together ways to support their families.

DGoodwin_KDesimone_SCarrikerGuest speaker Kerry Desimone (pictured right with GCI President Dorothy Goodwin and Sandy Carriker, Director, North Reading Food Pantry) shared her positive experiences with food pantry services and her success story with the Dare to Begin program offered by the Christian Community Service Food Pantry in North Reading. An impromptu discussion followed regarding the increasing demand placed on food pantries within our communities due to our challenging economic times.

FishbowlsFish bowls were offered to guests to collect change in their homes or businesses for their own neighborhood pantry.

GCI would like to know:  What inspires you to get involved in your community? Post your comments on our facebook page or write to jbousquin@gatheringchangeinc.org.

EMPLOYEES ENCOURAGE EMPLOYER GIVING

Please consider adding Gathering Change, Inc., to your place of business as a choice for charitable giving for an employer match.

To date Nokia, Bank of America, Ernst and Young and John Hancock are just a few of the businesses that have matched employee donations.

  1. The funds stay in your community.
  2. No salaries are taken.
  3. For every $1 received most food pantries can purchase $4 worth of food from the food bank.
  4. Every donation has an immediate impact.
