Dear Friends,

As I write this letter it looks more like winter outside instead of fall.  The Indians had the right idea back in the autumn of 1621...to share their knowledge of local crops and navigating daily life to help their new neighbors survive.

At Gathering Change, Inc., we believe in this same idea.  By sharing what we have with one another, we will survive the uncertainties of our economy.  In the words of Beverly Bootstraps, they call this a "Hand-Up" not a "Hand-Out."

On Wednesday evening, November 9th at the Lynnfield Meeting House, we will honor our volunteers for their support this past year, not with money or gifts, but with a promise that when we all work as one, we are united as a community and no one will be left behind.

On behalf of all of us at Gathering Change, Inc., we Thank You all for having the courage to "Speak-Up" and "Stand-Out" in the name of hunger!

Gratefully yours,

Dorothy Goodwin, President

Smiley Sunflowers
Doing Good is Their Business

Smiley SunflowersKatie Storer and Sarah Griffin proudly display their business cards for Smiley Sunflowers, a business they created in order to raise money for Gathering Change, Inc. a charitable organization that supports food pantries. These inspiring 9 year old Lynnfield residents make friendship bracelets, cootie catchers, book marks, drawings and more to sell to friends and relatives and then donate their profits to GCI. Most recently the fourth graders raised $48.02 from their sales. Enterprising and compassionate, the girls also sold their old toys, books and movies at yard sales to raise money. Gathering Change, Inc. would like to know:  What inspires you to get involved?  Let us know by writing to: jbousquin@gatheringchangeinc.org.

Young Neighbors Make A Difference in Lynnfield
$233 Collected in a Red Wagon
Cleary_Lynnfield
Lucy Cleary and friends put flyers in their neighbors mailboxes on Friday, October 21st letting them know they would be going door-to-door the next day to collect change on behalf of Gathering Change. On Saturday, October 22nd the kids set about the neighborhood and visited 22 houses. Everyone who answered the door gave some kind of donation, ranging from $.07 to a whole coffee can full of change to $30 in bills. Thanks to the flyer, neighbors were prepared to give their change to neighbors in need and help these children raise $233!

Did You Know...

...The reason for the increased volume in the number of individuals visiting the food pantry is because they do not qualify for government assistance like food stamps.

...In order to get a bag of food for three days, most food pantries that are affiliated with a food bank require that you have depleted your savings and your 401K.

A special Thank You to the Saugusbank for working with us to support hunger in your Community!

About Gathering Change, Inc.

Gathering Change, Inc., is a grassroots charitable organization that collects spare change from our homes, schools, faith communities and businesses. Our mission is to meet the immediate basic needs of citizens within our cities and towns who cannot achieve this goal alone. The funds are distributed back into our local food pantries and social programs. Gathering Change, Inc., gives everyone the opportunity to participate by sharing their abundance, thereby fostering a sense of interconnection, care and well-being throughout our neighborhoods.
