Your Change Making A Difference

A Fresh Necessities donation of toilet paper, bar soap, shampoo, deodorant and toothpaste has been made to theWakefield Interfaith Food Pantry and the Neighbors in Need Food Pantries in Andover and Methuen.

Megan McLean has done it again!  On New Years Eve, Megan celebrated her 16th birthday with 40 friends. In lieu of gifts she asked them to bring  their spare change. Together they raised $1,180.98. This donation has been sent to the Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry.

The Women's Lunch Place in Boston will receive an employee donation that is being matched by John Hancock thanks to our GCI ambassador, Kristen Potter. With a basket at her desk, Kristen has been actively collecting change from her colleagues and raising awareness about the positive impact GCI and John Hancock are having on hungry families in our communities.

GCI thanks you for your generous support!

Dear Friends,

In March we will be having our first fundraiser breakfast called "Come To The Table." For most of us, the table is where we gather to begin and end each day. The table is where we find nourishment, not just from the food we eat, but from those we share it with. The table is the heart of every home, or is it?

I want to share some hunger facts about Massachusetts recently released by The Greater Boston Food Bank:

  • Massachusetts food banks provide emergency hunger-relief services to an estimated 801,200 people annually.
  • One in 11 people in the Commonwealth visit a food pantry, soup kitchen or shelter.
  • The number of people using the emergency food assistance network has grown by 23 percent since 2006.
  • More than one in three households served has a child under the age of 18.
  • Over 10% of those who receive emergency food assistance are 65 or older.
  • 57% of the people served have to choose between food and rent, medicine, or heat.

Gathering Change, Inc. invites you to join us as we discuss hunger in our communities and what our spare change is doing to bring nourishment and hope to every Table in need.

See You at The Table!

Warmest Regards,

Dorothy Goodwin, President

Fourth Graders Gather Change in Wakefield
MilaChange2010_2011

Mila Frohlichstein gathered over $143 dollars at the Dolbeare School in Wakefield

Dolbeare School student Mila Frohlichstein orchestrated a coin drive for Gathering Change, Inc. Calling the collection 'Mila's Gathering Change for the Hungry', the compassionate 10 year old placed collection jars in all four fourth grade classes and one jar in the school office to raise money for her local food pantry.  Inspired by a friend who collected change at her own school for GCI, Mila wanted to do the same as a service to her community. After receiving the collected change of over $143 dollars, Gathering Change, Inc. donated the money to the Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry.
