Chadashot: What's New at BYDS?

BYDS Chooses New Math Online Enrichment Program

for Grades One to Five

BYDS Elementary School students in grades 1-5 this year will soon be presented with an awesome, new online mathematics enrichment program called TenMarks, which will deliver the goods to our students in terms of strong practice, engaging instruction, immediate assessment, and pinpoint intervention to keep their mathematics education moving forward in the best way possible. All of our returning families this year will of course remember last year's First in Math online program that provided students with a stimulating and entertaining way to give them loads of mental math practice, and we encourage families to register their kids if they wish to do so (information below), so that students can turn to these math games at home and occasionally at school as computer and practice time permits.

This year, our math classrooms will be turning to TenMarks as the main supplement to our math curriculum. ERB is partnered with and has contributed to the development of TenMarks to provide ERB-aligned curriculum as well as assessment integration for the CTP tests (that are taken by our students in grades 3-5) and the Children's Progress test (given at BYDS in grades k-2).

There is much more than just practice in this new program, because TenMarks has specific lessons targeted to every problem a student answers incorrectly and inserts explanations that enhance understanding of the concepts behind the problem. It provides a rigorous self-paced curriculum based on research based instructional philosophy - instruction, practice, assessment, intervention - and helps students build conceptual understanding as well as develop computational and procedural fluency, resulting in strong math foundations. And most importantly to our students, the program provides a system of rewards and allows students access to games upon mastery of subject matter.

More information about TenMarks will be coming home soon, including student and parent access codes to the program. In the meantime, should families wish to buy into a six-month or twelve-month First in Math plan, they can do so by visiting www.24game.com and clicking "First In Math Online."

We look forward to getting our students going with TenMarks as our school's choice on-line math enrichment strategy to supplement our ongoing commitment to our outstanding Singapore Math program. Should you have questions about TenMarks, please contact Curriculum Coordinator Cathryn Mellon, who will be happy to discuss the program with you and its incorporation in our classrooms this year.

Support Renewing the Promise

BYDS students can support the Torah Project by wearing their t-shirts on Mondays (Spirit Day).  We would love to have 100% participation from the BYDS students, and we hope that this inspires other families to go and scribe.
