UT "Cowboys" Address BYDS Students and Shoot Canon
This afternoon at 2:00pm, Beth Yeshurun Elementary Students got a real treat when members of the University of Texas' prestigious "Cowboys" organization spoke to the students, presented information about their community service-oriented group, and then fired off their canon. The canon ceremony out in the Sukkah courtyard was preceded by an "Eyes of Texas" sing-along. Students were given the opportunity on Friday to show up in western wear or don their UT clothing for the occasion. Later, after the canon shot, members of the "Cowboys" went from class to class and had their pictures taken with several groups of students. The students were very excited to have the "Cowboys" visit them through the afternoon.

Tables Are Set for BYDS Model Seders in Reiches Hall
Reiches Hall will be the new location for this year's Model Seders on Wednesday and Thursday next week, with three Early Childhood Seder ceremonies--for the two's, three's, and Pre-K classes-set for three time slots on Wednesday morning, April 4, while the Elementary School will have two Model Seder ceremonies on Thursday, April 5, with the Kindergarten, First, and Second Grades going in the morning (10:30am), and the Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grades doing a first-ever afternoon Model Seder (1:00pm). Rabbis Rosen, Strauss, and Morgen will be on hand to lead various parts of the Elementary School Model Seder on Thursday.
The Reiches Hall setting for this year's Model Seders will require different
preparations, but it is set to go smoothly, as cooking will commence on Monday in the Synagogue kitchen. Because of the space constraints and the necessity to create an atmosphere that will allow the students to focus on the songs, recitations, and prayers, parents are not expected to be present as they have been for several years running; however, parents are of course welcome to attend, though there will be limited seating.
To help the Elementary Grade levels prepare for the Model Seders this year, several morning services over the past month have included a small component of rehearsal to go over new melodies and to re-orient the students to some of the more well-known Passover songs. A new feature this year will be a brand new set of haggadot, an acquisition arranged by Judaic Studies Director, Sharon Knafo, who has designed the Elementary School Model Seder Programs this year.
