Three Play Hookie-with the Head!
Three lucky BYDS students-Sam and Lillie Rosen, along with Sydney Daniels-played "hookie" on Thursday afternoon, but it was all okay as the three students' parents were the recipients of the Hookie with the Head honors by virtue of the big board silent auction at this year's annual Gala. The three fourth graders joined Mr. E. at 11:30am on Thursday, where they began a full afternoon and evening filled with fun activities: Among the highlights, were 1) lunch at Aroma Pizza; 2) Imax film on "3D Tornado" at Houston Museum of Natural Science; 3) rides and underwater touring at the Downtown Aquarium; 4) activities at Houston's Children's Museum; and 5) club level seats at the Rockets basketball game!
All told-a ten and a half hour extravaganza of Houston's finest fun activities!

First Grade Insect Fair both a Wow and a Scare
The First Grade Insect Fair on Wednesday this week was a huge success-the exhibits in Pulaski-Rauch were spectacular, the learning features were impressive, and the many attendees were engaged and spirited. All First Grade students had created a rendition of their chosen insect, wrote up a full, first-person structured narrative covering insect identity (including its own name!), information about their habitat, an encounter with their enemies, and the manner in which they protect themselves. Adding to the theatrical atmosphere of this science exhibit, the students also dressed up like their chosen insect. Everybody was wowing the exhibits and the insects themselves-many o f the insects were so awesome that they were scary. Each display board also included a Metamorphosis Wheel, plus colorful elements depicting the insect and its habitat. The First Grade students even served the role of teacher for each visitor walking by-giving them a huge opportunity to try out their presentation and leadership skills. We all want to extend big thanks to First Grade teachers, Ruth Adler, Amy Krost, and Alexis Saperstein-along with science teacher Lauren Kase-for giving the students a great educational science project and for guiding their students toward completion of this amazing project!
