BYDS Kindergarten Class Holds Beautiful Shabbat Service in Reiches

 

This morning our Kindergarten students and their parents experienced a beautiful Shabbat learning program in Reiches Hall. Rabbi Strauss and Hazzan Propis were on hand to guide the Shabbat service and to provide musical accompaniment.  From candle lighting, to hand washing, to the breaking of bread--our Kindergarten students exhibited their knowledge of the order of service and they concluded the ceremony with a series of traditional Shabbat songs. One of the program highlights was on dazzling display on the 92 inch flat screen TV in Reiches, where everyone watched a touching video showing each Kindergarten student answering to the camera what they felt was their favorite part about Shabbat. We thank Lilly Lazarus and Mark Strug for all their work putting together the student video. 
 


 

 
5th Grade Discovery of Art

BYDS Fifth Grade Schedules Art Course at MFAH's Glassell School

 

Our Fifth Grade students are planning for a Discovery for Art program at the Glassell Art School of the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. The three course dates are scheduled for February 24, March 2, and March 9. The three lessons over the course of the art class include clay relief sculpture and its impact on community development around the world; learning the "isms" of tempura art painting; and identities hidden and revealed in the paper mask-making class. Through the use of a multitude of different art media, formats, and historical periods, the students will gain a sweeping sense of the extent and range of art throughout world history as well as gain an appreciation for the contribution art has made in the development of societies. We look forward to sharing you the images of our students performing art and learning about its context in history as soon as this marvelous experience begins on February 24.

Tzedakah

*             Thanks for the wonderful participation this past week. 100% Tzedakah was collected by 14 out of 16 classes grades K-5!

*             Thanks to Julia Minkowitz and Max Hoffman for coordinating this weeks' project.  Special thanks to Lila Mueller who generously gave $20.00 of her first tooth fairy visit to Tzedakah!  Thanks to Mrs. Zehavi who found an old tzedakah box and donated its content to our school project.
