The Start of Something Big

 

It is our privilege to honor Julie Kaplan as the first recipient of the "Robin and Joshua Berry Volunteer Award"  at the 2012 Beth Yeshurun Day School Annual Gala.   Julie was selected by a team of your peers who sought to recognize one outstanding volunteer of the year who has demonstrated initiative, creativity, leadership, responsibility and involvement in a project or projects.   The recipient of this award is someone committed to Jewish values and whose vital contributions of time, energy and resources help sustain the Beth Yeshurun Day School community.  Mazal tov Julie!

100th Day of School


 

Hope you are all gearing up for the 100th day of school!!!  

 

       There are many children in our city who have no books at home.  For our 100th day Mitzvah Project, our goal is to collect 100 books to send to Ben Taub General Hospital for their BOOKS program.   

 

       BOOKS is a program dedicated to giving a book to every child visiting Ben Taub General Hospital.  With every book comes a prescription from the health provider encouraging the parent to read or "share the book" with the child.  Because literacy is a public health issue, another focus of BOOKS is to train the medical students and residents about the importance of reading to children early and consistently.  Children whose parents read to them develop a love of books, the first step in literacy.  It is the hope of this program to bring books and the pleasure of reading to EVERY child in Harris County.


        We ask that each of you please help with this mitzvah project and begin bringing in new or slightly used books now through Tuesday, February 7th.  The books will be donated on the 100th day of school.
