Tzedakah

This Wednesday we finally gathered to decide where to allocate our collected Tzedakah. The 5th grade students engaged in this educational discussion as for where to and how much to give, but the underlying value was why do we decide to give and how do we motivate ourselves to do Tikkun Olam. After listening to Rabbi Strauss and understanding the five wonderful options (Friends of the IDF (FIDF), Mazon , Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Houston, Houston Food Bank, Jewish Federation of Greater Houston), the students received $42.00 each to distribute to five different boxes. Following the minutes of distribution, the students were asked to share their personal thoughts and feelings behind their decision. It was really interesting to hear what these 11 years old have to say about giving and helping others. This journey is not over yet. We now have five students who chair the communication with each of the 5 organization. They will give us a brief explanation about "their organization" on Friday afternoon during Kabbalat Shabbat Service and announce the amount our students will allocate to this organization. They will also contact the organizations and inform them about their decision.

We attach their speeches to the elementary school which explain their organizations.

Thanks to Rabbi Strauss for leading this great experience.
