BYDS Kindergarten Students Shine in Consecration Ceremony

Mazel Tov to our Kindergarten students!

BYDS Kindergarten students participated in the 2011 Consecration Program, with their families and the entire Elementary School in attendance, on Tuesday, October 18. The ceremony marks the formal launch of their journey as Beth Yeshurun Elementary students while highlighting the symbols and traditions of Sukkot.

In the spirit of the Sukkot Holiday, the students entered the Freedman-Levit Sanctuary with their own Lulav and Ethrog sets to the sound of the traditional song of this holiday Sisu Vesimchu. The students wore special costumes representing the four species, and as part of the ceremony they dramatized the meaning of the Lulav (Palm branch), Ethrog (citrus fruit), Hadas (myrtles) and Arava (willows), and the special relation these symbols have to the day of Sukkot, the Jewish people and traditions.

We thank Rabbi Rosen and Rabbi Strauss for their d'var Torah and blessings.  Also, we thank the Kindergarten teachers-Ms. McKee, Ms. Golden, and Ms. Goodman-and the Judaic teachers-Ms. Hadar and Ms. Olitski-for  preparing our students for this annual ceremony, in addition to Dora Lee Grinberg, Jodi Gold, and Betty Gorme for their musical and artistic guidance.  For the hospitality and reception arrangements, we thank Rachel Toubin for her many hours of volunteer work overseeing so many details, assuring the success of the ceremony.
