Teachers Are Learners, Too!
Teachers in Kindergarten through Second Grade participated in a workshop on Wednesday evening with reading and writing specialist Kristy Gonzales from Katy ISD. The professional development session was designed to give our teachers some helpful pointers in terms of guiding students through the Workshop approach. At BYDS, writing is among the top academic priorities-students learn a love of writing through daily writing practice, through mini-lessons and by conferring with their peers and their teachers. The school has arranged for Kristy Gonzales to return for specialized work with our upper Elementary teachers.

BYDS BOOK FAIR A SUCCESS
BYDS Book Fair was a success, as librarian Monica Woolf and her library volunteers tried out some new approaches and enticements to generate interest. What was new? The raffle, the new rolling racks, and the new Reiches Multi-Purpose Room which offered more space, natural lighting and a much cleaner presentation!
Ms. Woolf and BYDS thank the incredible volunteers Jen Cowan, Cathie Gittleman, and Cari Brandt for their involvement throughout. We also thank the Beth Yeshurun Sisterhood for helping out by donating a doll for the raffle. We thank the Jack Stopnicki with Ticket Stop for the tickets to the Texans/Raiders game. We thank the volunteers who set up and broke down the book fair, and lastly we thank the PTO for helping to organize the Hot Dog Dinner which was a benefit event for our library needs.
We received significant pledges for support for our library, and we look forward to thanking these families once we finalize the furnishings we are acquiring as a result of this support!

Welcome Back Peter and Aaron!!!
BYDS experienced a happy occasion today as Peter and Aaron Berry returned to school mid-morning on Friday. Their classmates were ecstatic with joy when they arrived to take part in the school day. Smiles and enthusiastic greetings abounded all throughout the new school building's hallways and in the lunch room, as Peter and Aaron beamed with satisfaction, finally rejoining their many many friends! Mindy Rosenthal, who has been in daily contact with Peter's and Aaron's professional caretakers in Chicago for the past several weeks and has managed the school's accommodation plans, took Peter on a school tour, while Aaron's classmates showed him around our new school.
Here's to a BYDS big, hearty welcome back to the Berry Boys!!!
