Greetings!

March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb...at least that's how the saying goes.  I'm not so sure that's the case this year, especially here in our beautiful valley.  March couldn't have started out any better.  Along with our summer weather, we wrapped up a successful State of the City luncheon and the Board got off to a great start, with some really exciting items to come.  It can only get better from here.  March is the perfect month to enjoy those last days of winter, welcome the daylight savings as we spring ahead, and drink green beer or whatever your drink of choice...color it green!  Our hope for you is to take advantage of the daylight and hopefully that rainbow will lead to a pot of gold for all of you.

Buellton State of the City a memorable day.
Our Chamber hosted the Annual State of the City for Buellton.  The event took place at the SYV Marriott and we had 170 attendees.  In addition to City Manager, John Kunkel's address to the community, we also had the honor of recognizing some of our local heroes for their outstanding work, in carrying out a dramatic rescue of a mother and her two daughters back in January on Hwy 101.  The SB County Fire Department, Buellton CHP, SM Towing, and the U.S. Navy Seabees were there to receive the honors.  The City also celebrated the 20th birthday for Buellton with sparkler lit cakes (which seemed like a good idea, LOL) and Buellton sunglasses, sticking with the theme, "Our future's so bright, we gotta wear shades"  A huge thank you to our generous donors:  MarBorg Industries for sponsoring the rescue workers' meals, Albertson's for the donation of balloons and a discount on the cakes, SYV Marriott for going above and beyond to make our event a true success, and the City of Buellton for supplying the cakes.  Also, to Kyle Abello for putting together a great slide presentation and assisting with the video presentations for the day.  We  truly appreciate all of the support from our City and community and thank you for coming.  View Photos from this great day here.
Cutting the Bureaucratic Gridlock
by Senator Tony Strickland
While I was visiting Teixeira Farms to discuss agricultural issues, the owners tol
d me that one state agency said they needed to recycle all their water, while another state agency said they couldn't recycle any of their water.  The owners of the farm told me they were happy to do whatever was needed, but they couldn't recycle all their water and none of their water at the same time.  Constituents and small business owners in my district often call my office, telling me that one state agency has given them the run-around about an issue and referred them to yet another state agency.  Round and round they go, from agency to agency, until they finally give up. Clearly, California's vast bureaucracy is not working.  There has to be a way to make government more efficient and maximize your precious tax dollars that come to Sacramento.  Read More.
 Linda Veronica CooleyWith Sympathy
We recently lost, Linda Veronica Cooley, a member of our Chamber.  Linda was a talented artist and a regular donor to our Chamber Mixers.  You may have had the privilege of meeting Linda and her husband Mike at our Chamber functions.  They were great supporters and Linda will be sorely missed.  Our sincere thoughts and prayers go out to the Cooley Family as they manage this difficult time.

Host Families Needed
The Santa Ynez High School is inviting 30 Danish students for a fall semester.  To make this happen, host families are needed.  The students are between 15-17 years and they arrive early August until December 21.  Hosts need to provide a separate bedroom and will be paid $475.00 per student per month.  Please contact Jutta Aichinger at 686-9089 or email jutta_aichinger@yahoo.com by the end of March if interested.
