What causes Sun Damage?
Sun damage, also identified as photo damage, refers to how the sun alters the look and feel of the skin. Sun damage is a form of extrinsic aging, which is early aging that is caused by the environment. It is collective, which means that effects exacerbate with repeated, unprotected contact to the sun.
Sun damage is caused by frequent exposure to damaging ultraviolet (UV) rays. UV is an undetectable form of radiation emitted by the sun. There are two types of UV rays, UVA and UVB. UVA rays penetrate deep into the skin and are a major source of early aging and skin cancer. UVB rays primarily access the surface of the skin and are the key source of sunburns.
Skin Care Products that Block UVA:
Products that contain Zinc Oxide. Although Zinc Oxide can leave the skin with a white hue, SkinCeuticals makes a transparant Zinc Oxide sunscreen that blends in much more evenly than traditional Zinc sunscreens. It is very important to reapply sunscreen every 1 1/2 hrs for maximum benefit.
SkinCeuticals also makes two UVA once per day serum blockers called CE Ferulic and Phloterin CF that are very effective at blocking UVA rays. You can apply either product only once per day for all day long protection. They are also excellent antioxidants and help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. They have both been featured in Allure Magazine.
Staying out of the sun is always your best bet for reducing your risks of UVA damage.
How to Remove Sun Damage:
Currently the most effective way to remove sun damage is with an AFT Photo Facial laser treatment. This laser penetrates deeply to the root of the sun damage to permanently lift away discolorations, veins, and pre-cancerous cells, all without downtime or disruption to the surface of the skin. It also minimizes pore size and fine lines.
