Mt. Hermon is Entering a Season of Discovery and Discernment

What is A Season of Discovery and Discernment: Vision and Relationship go hand and hand. When a congregation is in relationship with each other and with God, communication by God can be discerned and is capable of capturing the hearts and imagination of the whole body of believers. Together in relationship and vision a congregation can intentionally move forward toward the goal of the Kingdom. A Season of Discovery and Discernment is designed to provide the environment where this can happen through gatherings of the whole congregation in conversations of discovery and relationship with God and each other. From these gatherings God can speak through the whole congregation leading not only toward the search for the next pastor but an awareness of God's direction for the congregation.

What are the goals of the Season of Discovery and Discernment?

·         New Relationships beyond the existing social and ministry group

·         Renewed excitement about the future of Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church

·         Better understanding of God's call to Mt. Hermon inclusive of all the gifts God has given

·         Clearer discernment of the qualities and gifts needed in the future leader

What is the schedule for the Season of Discovery and Discernment?

·         During the Season of Lent

·         Ash Wednesday: Begin with Prayer and Commitment to the journey

·         One Service: Fellowship Hall from 9:30am - 11:30am

o   March 13th - First Sunday in Lent

o   March 27th - Third Sunday in Lent

o   April 10th - Fifth Sunday in Lent

Will there still be worship? Though this will be held in the fellowship hall, it will still be a worship experience. The liturgy - work of the people - will be different in the gatherings but the presence of God will remain unchanged. There will still be singing and communion shared in the gatherings. God's Word will still be shared. The difference is that it will not be preached but discovered.

Who will lead the Gatherings?

·         Pastor Keith will be the principle facilitator for the Gatherings

·         Each table gathering will have a guides trained as part of a leadership team

What about the children?

·         Confirmation age youth and above will be invited to participate

·         Qualified Child Care activities will be provided for those that are younger

What about the call committee?

·         Made up of 6 people elected by the council

·         Categories of representation will be established by the council

·         Observation of gatherings will help identify persons to serve

·         Final selection will take place after the gatherings

·         The committee will be trained, installed and begin their work

What is needed from the congregation?

·         Prayer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

·         Personal Presence:  A part of God's voice will be missing if you are.

·         Open Heart and Spirit: New Experiences can be uncomfortable

·         Be prepared to have fun and learn new things about your family of faith

This is just a season in the life of this congregation yet it has the potential to truly be a season of discovery and discernment of the call of Mt. Hermon and to Mt. Hermon. May we be found faithful in this season to the call of our Lord Jesus Christ that we may truly discern how to Make Christ Known and prepare ourselves for God's building of the Kingdom in our lives, families, church and world.
