Celebrating the Past
Preparing for the Future Help us burn our mortgage note by our 130th Anniversary, April 17, 2011. In addition to what you already give back to God through your tithes, please pray about putting something extra in the offering each week to help us pay down the mortgage and pay it off early. This is a very achievable goal if we all work together! Join us (1) with diligent prayer for ourselves and others, and (2) with giving IN ADDITION to what you already give to support God's work at Mt Hermon. 50 weeks x $5 is $250, 50 weeks x $10 is $500. Or, give a one-time gift in honor of someone living or deceased. Ask yourself "What can I do to help?" The Anniversary team members have already made their additional gift commitments. 2010 NC Synod Assembly
by Lisa McKinnon
Nanette Thompson and I attended the Synod Assembly as voting lay members of Mt Hermon June 3-5. The theme this year was "God's Work, Our Hands: Light and Hope in the Midst of Brokenness." We participated in elections for synod officers and council members, 2011 Churchwide Assembly Voting Members and individuals to serve on boards of agencies, institutions and organizations and 2011 Compensation Guidelines.
In the Bishop's reflection, Bishop Bolick turned the assembly toward the joy we find together in the light and hope of Christ. Five ministry goals have been adopted to guide the synod, including continued focus in prayer and worship, the Book of Faith Initiative (born out of the NC Synod - and which Mt. Hermon is a part), the raising up of new leaders within the church and the many strong congregational ministries of our synod. These goals, led by the work of the Holy Spirit, serve as God's guide for the continued proclamation of God's love through and by the NC Synod, and invigorate us daily to remember our own baptism and serve Christ as one synod and one body united in Christ.
I encourage anyone interested to attend the 2011 Assembly June 2-4. It was a very rewarding experience that reinforced my faith in "Light and Hope in the Midst of Brokenness". |
If you know of anyone who does not receive the Mt Hermon newsletter but would like to be added to the list, please send information to Linda@MtHermonELCA.org .
Sincerely,
Linda Beauregard Mt Hermon Lutheran Church
