Are you in compliance?
Beginning December 28, 2012, any crib provided by child care facilities and family child care homes must meet new and improved federal safety standards. ODJFS licensing regulations will follow suite in July 2011 - requiring that Consumer Product Safety Council recommendations be the standard for child day care licensing compliance.

CPSC Q&A
Chairman Inez M. Tenenbaum of the council appreciates the impact this mandated rule will have on smaller businesses. In response to this the council will allow child care businesses until December 28, 2012 to comply with the rule. It is believed that within this time frame that child care businesses can replace old or non-compliant cribs.
The CCRC is in a discussion with a local funder in an effort to establish a fund to assist in the replacement efforts of Lorain County child care programs serving infants. In the meantime, we wanted to make sure that you - the child care community was aware of this NEW rule and how it will directly affect your business. Strategies you can take: - Begin (after July1, 2011) to purchase compliant cribs one or two a month so that you meet the December 2012 deadline.
- Begin fundraising efforts with families and community - seeking sponsorships or giving naming rights for each crib (i.e. "Dodge" crib, "Smith" crib)
BUT don't wait until it is to late - take action NOW!!
If you have recently purchased cribs PLEASE contact your vendor and request a Certificate of Compliance that meets the rules for all NEW cribs. This will be required for all cribs moving forward.
