Pilot Recycling Program Needs Your Input
Recycling
You may have noticed recycling containers on the streets of downtown Knoxville.  These are a result of a pilot recycling program by the City of Knoxville and Waste Connections.

The project features receptacles located at approximately 20 different locations downtown for recyclable material including aluminum cans, bottles, glass containers, plastic cups and mixed paper among other items.

The pilot effort is aimed primarily at people who work and visit downtown who would like to be able to recycle a can or a newspaper rather than just throw it away. It is not a curbside program for residents who live in the center city.

The bins have been in downtown Knoxville for a few months, and the City of Knoxville is conducting a survey to determine the future of these receptacles. Please complete this short survey to help guide the future of recycling in downtown Knoxville.
Jackson Ave Lot Reopened

The City of Knoxville has reopened the newly-striped Jackson Avenue Parking lot.  Parking is free after 6 p.m. and throughout the weekend as part of the City's free nights and weekend program.

The parking lot, just west of the intersection of Gay Street and Jackson, offers paid parking during the day beginning at 6:00 a.m. though parking will still be free there nights after 6:00 p.m. and on weekends.

The new parking policy is aimed at supporting businesses located on the 100 Block and North Gay Street Areas by insuring there are spaces available during the day for people patronizing those establishments.
