We hope the year has gotten off to a good start for you and your family.  We know the start of the year is a hectic time and things may take awhile to "settle down". We are here for you!
 
We are looking forward to our upcoming Septa coffees and programs.  Coming up on Wednesday, October 10th -- don't miss our SEPTA coffee at Nautilus Diner at 9:15a.m. and come to the "Appy Hour" at 7:30pm at MHS.  Learn more below.

Mamaroneck Schools' "Appy Hour"

App Do you have an iPad/iPod/iPhone or other app-based smartphone? Do you wonder how you could take advantage of the world of apps to benefit your child's learning? There are hundreds of thousands of incredible apps, many free or low-cost. But how can we decide which of them are the must-have apps? Please join us for an Appy Hour on Wednesday, October 10 @ 7:30 in the high school Tiered Classroom. The hosts will be Andrew Hess, assistive technology specialist, and Ann Rushe, speech/language therapist and augmentative/alternative communication specialist. They will demonstrate apps that cover a wide range of student needs and learning goals. We will also leave time for you to share your must-have apps. The classroom is wifi-equipped, so bring your own device and you'll be able to download and begin using these apps right away. Click here for flyer.

 
Please come to our informal parent coffees:  First one is this Wednescoffeeday, October 10th!  A Parent Networking Discussion Group will meet 10/10, 11/14, 12/12, 1/9, 2/6, 3/13, 4/10, and 5/8 at 9:15 a.m.at the Nautilus Diner on Boston Post Road in Larchmont. If you have a question or concern about your child or just want to see friendly faces, please join us!

ShareStory2 Do you believe "It only gets better?"

 

First unexplained behavior, frustrating and isolating experiences - then a diagnosis.   Learn and teach others how the journey begins and how it "only gets better" as time goes on.  Your stories will help other parents feel less alone and offer hope. 

Take this opportunity to help others like you!  Please let us know if you or your child might be interested in becoming part of our panel for a very special program on April 8th, 2013 in Hommocks Library at 7:30pm.

Nurturing the Inner Lives of Kids -- Building Resilience in a Challenging World --  November 1, 7-9pm

 

Parents and faculty of ALL students and students in middle and high school are invited to attend Nurturing the Inner Lives of Kids -- Building Resilience in a Challenging Worldan inspirational presentation on Thursday, November 1, 2012, 7-9pm in the Hommocks Auditorium given by acclaimed educator Linda Lantieri, MA, Director of The Inner Resilience Programhttp://www.lindalantieri.org

 

Gain Insights from the fields of mindfulness, stress reduction and social and emotional learning.  Learn how attending to the inner lives of children, teens and their significant adults fosters emotional balance, builds coping skills and improves learning.

 

Learn strategies to reduce stress and manage setbacks; utilize insights from brain research to slow down, pay attention and focus on the situation at hand; provide our children with tools to make good choices as they move into a complex future; and support caring school environments that educate children's hearts as well as their minds.

 

 Westchester Transition Institute - Thursday Oct. 10

 

For parents of high school students receiving special educatio, the Transition Institute is a full day conference that will include keynote presentations and breakout sessions highlighting inclusive program options and WIHDstrategies to prepare high school students with disabilities for a successful transition to college, employment and maximized independence in the community!
