Parent Member Training

Have you ever thought about being a Parent Member on a Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) or a Committee on Special Education (CSE)?  Any parent of a student who is classified to receive special education is eligible for a one-day training to prepare to be a member of a CSE and/or CPSEs in our schools.  This training is an incredible learning experience as Parent Members, working together with the district staff and families, learn the CSE process from the "inside out".  The training curriculum was revamped in 2010 and provides a wealth of information to both new and veteran Parent Members.  It will be offered on Monday, September 24 in Valhalla from 9:30-2pm.  Register at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/parentmemberfall2012 or email hvsepc@wihd.org for more information.

SEPTA's liasion to parent members is Sandi Rosenbaum - feel free to contact her to learn more.

Little LeaguePraise from a Parent for Our Community

Inclusion - the opportunity for special needs children to participate in opportunities along with their nondisabled peers - is something parents and educators strive for.  The benefits to all kids and a community can be great but often there are challenges to be overcome.  This week, Autism Speaks published a blog post by Phyllis Raja, a local mom who has children on the autism spectrum.   It is a powerful piece entitled "A League for Everyone" about inclusion of her son on local recreational sports teams. We invite you to read it - click here.  Thank you to Phyliss and to the Larchmont-Mamaroneck Little League and the Larchmont-Mamaroneck Basketball League!  This speaks volumes!
