SEPTA is hosting parent to parent coffees at the Nautilus Diner - 9:00a.m.

Do you have a question about something you have heard or about navigating the special education or support services world?  Are you confused or concerned about your child's progress in general education or special education or about their social-emotional situation?

This is a wonderful opportunity for parents who have a child in any grade (or pre-K) who learns differently or who has social or other needs, whether or not the child receives support services, to meet and share insights and ideas.  SEPTA members with lots of experience will be there. Join of for this informal coffee and conversation.  Questions? Contact Suzanne Prigoda or Amy Lieberman

Support Parent Network

A Support Parent Network of over 1200 parents is the backbone of the Parent Matching Program which has been created and maintained by our Coordinators.  This is a model program used across the country to put parents in touch on a one to one basis with other parents who have a child with a chronic illness or disability.   "Support Parents" are parents of individuals with special needs who have made the offer to speak one to one with "new" parents and share their experiences.  Support parents are the key to this program.

When parents make the offer to be Support Parents, they are provided a skills building training, which includes an overview of how the program works, an understanding of the stages and emotions a parent or caregiver may be experiencing, as well as listening skills.  We welcome new parents to join the Support Parent network and to share their experience.

WIHD will be offering a Support Parent Training Workshop:

                Thursday, March 29 from 9:30am-11:30am

Westchester Institute for Human Development (WIHD),  Bernstein Conference Center, 3rd Floor

Registration is required to attend the workshop.

If you are unable to attend the Support Parent Training session and would like to be trained, kindly contact Ms. Kathleen Reynolds.   Training can be done on-line or by mail.
