As we start the New Year we look forward to several important programs for parents - please see the information below. We announce our SEPTA Grant program and share some useful resources with you.
SEPTA is here working for you -- through informative speaker programs, casual coffees and our on-going efforts to bring you important resources and information and to advocate for children with learning or social needs. Please join SEPTA and consider us in your annual giving plans. See the SEPTA website for membership forms and to pay online via PayPal.
SEPTA is the only District-wide PTA serving parents and staff working with children who have learning or social differences or special needs - whether classified to receive special education or not. Please join SEPTA and stay in touch!

Upcoming Programs on
CSEs/Annual Reviews and
on Assistive Technology
Friday, January 20th - 10:00a.m. - 12:00 p.m. - The CSE and Annual Review Process presented by Roni Kramer and Karen Gatto, Directors of Elementary and Secondary Special Education. This is a workshop for parents with a school-age child classified to receive special education in preparation for the annual review by the Committee or Subcommittee on Special Education. The workshop will take place in the MHS Library. Resources you may find helpful:
Tuesday, January 24th - 7:30p.m. - Assistive Technology Workshop for Parents. Assistive technology is a vital support for many students with disabilities. It is also involved in the district's larger efforts to provide technology options to all students. If you would like to learn more about assistive technology in the district, come to a district/SEPTA presentation on Tuesday January 24, at 7:30pm in the Hommocks library. Andrew Hess and Ann Rushe, the Assistive Technology Specialists for the district, will discuss Mamaroneck's assistive technology program-what it is, how it's implemented, and how assistive technology relates to other efforts to teach all Mamaroneck students.

School Board Meeting Featuring an Update on Special Education Across the District
Tuesday, February 7th at 7:30pm in the MHS Library. Come to this important school board meeting and learn about the special education programs and operations in the district. This will be an update by Dr. Anthony Minotti, Asst. Supt. for Student Support Services and Personnel to the Board of Education and audience members will have an opportunity to ask questions. If you have a special needs child please attend this meeting and learn about how special education is implemented in the district, what some of the important federal and state requirements are and what areas of focus are being pursued. |
| SEPTA Grants - Applications Now Being Accepted
What are SEPTA Faculty Grants? SEPTA faculty grants provide funding, typically in the $200 - $500 range, for creative programs, equipment or pilot projects that enhance and support the educational experience for student s with disabilities.
The deadline for all grant requests for this school year is Friday, February 17, 2012.
All proposals will be carefully considered, although it may not be possible to fund all requests. Click here for some guidelines and a simple SEPTA Grant Proposal Form for your convenience. Do not hesitate to contact us before the deadline with any questions.

Join Us for Coffee & Conversation
SEPTA is hosting coffees at the Nautilus Diner - 9:00a.m. on Wednesday, February 1st, March 7th and/or April 25th.
Do you have a question about something you have heard or about navigating the special education world? Do you have concerns or a success story to share about your child's progress or supports and want to chat parent to parent? This is a wonderful opportunity for parents who have a child in any grade (or pre-K) who learns differently or who has social or other needs, whether or not the child receives support services, to meet and share insights and ideas.
