Tribute to all Veterans: Sept. 26 to Oct. 4, 2009 |
Veterans of the HMS Ajax, HMS Exeter and HMS Achilles and their families arrive next week in Ajax to honour all veterans and mark the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of the River Plate. The event is highlighted by street dedications, a dinner boat cruise of the Toronto Harbour and concludes with a Gala Dinner at Deer Creek, a musical tribute to all veterans, including the dedication of the Ajax Legacy Obelisk. Tickets are going fast. |

Explore Durham's Greenbelt on a bike |
The 2009 Tour de Greenbelt cycling extravaganza is coming to Durham and the Town of Ajax is the proud host. The Durham leg of the tour, which will start and end in the Greenwood Conservation Area, takes place on Sunday, September 27. |

Town celebrates first phase of new prestige business park |
On September 14, the Town of Ajax and Higgins Development Partners, celebrated the completion of the first phase of a new prestige business park - a 100,00 sq. ft. industrial building. The building is part of a development program that will see a total of six constructed for the 50 acre site (located south of Rossland Road on Harwood Avenue North), which will ultimately have 650,000 sq. ft. of new employment space. The property was subject to a conversion application, from employment to residential, that was successfully defended by the Town. Ajax has spent close to $1.2 million to preserve employment land. |
Ajax Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan Workshop |
 Every day, Durham residents make 800,000+ car trips that are less than 6km. To look into ways at changing this, the Town will host a second Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan Workshop on October 6.
At its September 17 General Government Committee, Town Council received a report entitled " Trails for Active Transportation" prepared by Walk and Bike for Life. Recommendations identified in the report will be considered in the development of the Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan. |
Female Cardinal wins "Best in Show" in photography contest |
A photo entitled "Female Cardinal" taken by Robert Carleton was named Best in Show in the Town of Ajax and Black's Superstore Amateur Photography Contest. Winning and honourable mention photographs are on display at the McLean Community Centre (95 Magill Dr.) until October 26. |
