Slots Announcement
OLG announced today (July 10, 2009) that a total of 70 new full and part-time jobs will be created with the planned expansion of OLG Slots at Ajax Downs. The construction project, slated for completion by spring 2010, will include the installation of 544 new slot machines, bringing the total to the municipally approved cap of 800. The Town welcomes both the short-term and long-term employment being created, and the new non-tax revenues from the additional slots. The additional revenues to the Town will continue to support key infrastructure projects such as roads, trails and other municipal facilities.

It's anticipated that work will be completed by the end of the construction season in 2010, and fully operational by 2011.

More than 700 people attended Ajax Trailfest, where the Town showcased its trail system and celebrated the official opening of the Millers Creek Trail North. Over 100 cyclists joined Mayor Parish for a 33 kilometre ride of Ajax, residents and visitors were taken on a scenic walk of the new trail, and many took in the ribbon cutting ceremony, activities and free barbeque. The Town will invest $6.6 million in additional trails over the next five years, increasing its total trail infrastructure to 105 km.
