OLG announced today (July 10, 2009) that a total of 70 new full and part-time jobs will be created with the planned expansion of OLG Slots at Ajax Downs. The construction project, slated for completion by spring 2010, will include the installation of 544 new slot machines, bringing the total to the municipally approved cap of 800. The Town welcomes both the short-term and long-term employment being created, and the new non-tax revenues from the additional slots. The additional revenues to the Town will continue to support key infrastructure projects such as roads, trails and other municipal facilities.

SwimmingThe Memorial Outdoor Pool, located at Ajax Town Hall, will receive a $2 million makeover. The Federal Government, along with the Province of Ontario and the Town, will split the cost equally. The money will go towards revamping the pool's deck, replacing the wading pool with a splash pad and upgrading the change rooms. It's anticipated that work will be completed by the end of the construction season in 2010, and fully operational by 2011.

Over 700 celebrate official opening of Millers Creek Trail North

Trailfest Ribbon Cutting
More than 700 people attended Ajax Trailfest, where the Town showcased its trail system and celebrated the official opening of the Millers Creek Trail North. Over 100 cyclists joined Mayor Parish for a 33 kilometre ride of Ajax, residents and visitors were taken on a scenic walk of the new trail, and many took in the ribbon cutting ceremony, activities and free barbeque. The Ajax Trail System is quickly becoming the trail capital of Durham Region. The Town will invest $6.6 million in additional trails over the next five years, increasing its total trail infrastructure to 105 km.
Every minute counts

Every Minute CountsThe Town recognizes the leadership role that municipalities can play in raising awareness and educating the public on key environmental issues. The development of an Anti-Idling Strategy is another example of the Town's support and commitment to improve air quality in Ajax. The strategy includes a by-law amendment, public awareness campaign and "IDLE FREE" Zones.
