Town moving forward with Bicycle Priorities Plan |
 On May 21, Mayor Parish announced the Town is moving forward with its Bicycle Priorities Plan in early July, 2009. The plan is a necessary first step in the implementation of a commuter cycling network that provides critical links to major destinations throughout Ajax. The plan calls for the creation of 9 km of bike lanes in 2009 and 10 km in 2010. The bike lane network will be the first of its kind in the Durham Region. |

Town seeking input for parking strategy for Pickering Village |
The Town is developing a Parking Management Strategy for Pickering Village to enhance parking in the village and along Old Kingston Road. As part of the strategy, Town planners and engineering staff are inviting area residents to join them on a walk along Old Kingston Road to provide feedback to inform the strategy. |
Toronto Star publishes Mayor's Opinion piece |
The Toronto Star recently published an Opinion piece by Mayor Steve Parish. The article, entitled "Sprawl a slam dunk for developers" speaks to Growing Durham - the Region of Durham led planning initiative that will set where, and how much, future urban development will occur until the year 2031. The article was followed by an Editorial of Support, entitled "Durham plan adds to sprawl".

Ajax Community Fund launches fundraising challenge |
 On May 5, the Ajax Community Fund launched a fundraising challenge. For every three dollars donated, Veridian Corporation will donate one dollar. Town staff immediately took up the challenge, presenting the fund with a cheque for $2,500 raised through various initiatives. The fund's goal is to raise $10,000. |
Town Council approves Site Plan Application for 5-storey retirement residence |
At its May 19 Community Affairs & Planning Committee meeting, Ajax Council approved the Site Plan Application for a 5-storey retirement residence to be located at 200 - 240 Old Harwood Ave. |
