Council approves new ward system |
 Ajax Town Council approved a new ward system on March 30, 2009. The new system will retain the existing four ward system and structure, with slight modifications. |
Mayor gives presentation on Town's progressive trail system |
 Mayor Steve Parish gave a presentation, entitled "An inside look at the Ajax Trail System" at the Parks and Recreation Ontario Conference on March 31 in Niagara Falls, ON.

Ajax Town Hall receives Eco-Certificate from Minister Smitherman |
 The Town of Ajax has received the Ajax-Pickering Board of Trade's prestigious "Certificate of Achievement" for renovations and practices undertaken at Ajax Town Hall. The certificate was presented on March 27, 2009 to Mayor Steve Parish by the Hon. George Smitherman, Deputy Premier and Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, and John G. Smith, President of the Ajax-Pickering Board of Trade. |
Ajax calls on region to reconsider final "Growing Durham" scenario |
At its March 2, 2009 Community Affairs and Planning Committee meeting, Council unanimously endorsed a staff report recommending changes to the Region's final Growing Durham scenario and proposed Official Plan Amendment. "Growing Durham" is a Region-led planning initiative that will set where, and how much, future development will occur in the Region of Durham until the year 2031. The next public meeting on the matter will be held on May 19, 2009 at Regional Headquarters. |
Council approves site plan for new LEED designed Operations Centre |
 Council has approved the site plan for the new LEED designed Operations Centre. There are a number of 'green' initiatives incorporated within the design of the building, including an integrated solar design that will produce 100 kilowatts of electrical energy, and enough hot water to meet the demands of a typical workday.

Council approves purchase of new public art piece |
Council has approved the purchase and installation of the sculpture, entitled "Vasika mhuri" (Family Creation) at the McLean Community Centre (MCC). The sculpture will be located in the front lobby and include a dedication plaque to the pioneers of arts and culture in Ajax. The purchase is part of the Art in Public Spaces Policy and Plan, approved by Council on November 20, 2008. |
Town provides Waterfront Management Plan Update 2009 |
 The Town provided an update on its Waterfront Management Plan to residents at a public meeting held on March 19, 2009.

Streamlining business permits and licences with BizPaL |
The Town has launched BizPal for Ajax businesses, an online service that simplifies the business permit and licence process for entrepreneurs, governments, and third party business service providers. The service provides one-stop access to permit and licence information for all levels of government. |
Town to release Environmental Discussion Paper |
 An Environmental Policies Discussion Paper will be presented to the Community & Affairs Planning Committee on April 6, 2009. The following topics will be addressed: air and water quality, climate change, energy and water conservation, 'green' environment, natural heritage (land and water) and urban heat island. This examination is part of the Town of Ajax's Official Plan Review. A public meeting on the matter will be held on April 21, 2009. |
Registration has begun for summer camps |
 There are a number of new and re-tooled camps for children and youth. A lifetime of memories can be made by attending one of our summer camps! |
Hospital uses Town donation to purchase cancer equipment |
 The Rouge Valley Health System Foundation hosted a special ceremony on April 2, 2009 to celebrate its latest equipment purchase in the fight against cancer. Thanks to the latest gift from the Town - the second installment of its $250,000 pledge - Rouge Valley Health System purchased Sentinel Node Biopsy equipment for the surgical unit of Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering hospital. |

 The Ajax Community Fund is looking for volunteers to increase awareness of the Fund within the community, seek fundraising opportunities and act as ambassadors in the community. | |
