Generous Support
This Sunday, November 8 Trinity celebrates it's Commitment Sunday as our stewardship program invites a response.  During the last 5 minutes of each worship service, members and friends will be invited to make two financial commitments to the church.  The first is a 1-year commitment to Trinity's General Fund - and the second, is a 3-year commitment to the Capital Campaign.  Funds in support of the General Fund will go toward the support of on-going ministries at Trinity, along with staff salaries, maintenence and bills.
The second commitment to the Capital Campaign will go toward the Building Fund (paying off the mortgage, primarily) and Landscaping needs and improvements around the church building.
Both seek to strengthen our ministry together, and our outreach into the community & world.

Members and Friends of Trinity are invited to take an assessment of all the ways that God has blessed them in this gift call Life - and then to pray: Lord, out of all the ways in which you have blessed my life, what would you have me give in support of my Church?

As pastors who serve at Trinity, Jim and I are inviting people to consider a sacrificial gift of thanks to God for the blessings they have received.  We are NOT seeking equal gifts from all members, but rather, equal sacrifice in our giving.  For some, a gift of $500 may be a huge sacrifice... for others, perhaps $100,000 or more may be possible. (By the way, with 150 "active families" at Trinity - an equal gift, spread over each family evenly would amount to: $3800 per family.  This would allow the mortgage balance to be paid in full).

Some people will not be able to give anything at this time.
I know that some of you have struggled with the downturn in the economy, and are working hard to make ends meet.  Please know that at times like these, Trinity is willing to HELP YOU as much as we are able.  And please remember, your commitments can always be modified, changed or cancelled at any time... they do give our leadership a good idea on what support might be coming in.

Others will be able to give out of their abundance - and we give thanks for this support too.  Your financial gifts allow a wide-range of ministries to happen.  Scholarships allow our youth to attend summer camp, support at the Bazaar and Men's Group Fish Broil allow support for local minisries (BACN, Home Health & Habitat - to name a few).

This Sunday is our Commitment Sunday.  I pray that you come, celebrate - and consider a gift that reflects both your generosity and circumstances.

Thank You!
And God Bless,
Pastor Rick.

 The Stieve's Gift

During Trinity's first Capital Campaign three years ago, our consultant Greg Gibbs (from Cargill & Associates) told the leaders of the congregation that the one thing that made the biggest difference in the gifts of members and friends - was the Naming of Your Gift.  That is, if you are willing to stand up and say something like this:

I love Trinity Lutheran Church, and in support of this Capital Campaign - Linda and I are giving $10,000 - committed over the next 3 years.

This IS the gift we will be giving in this Capital Campaign.  And this will be on top of our support to the General Fund of the church - which will be $8,000 this year.

To be honest with you, I feel like we could give a more.  But like many before us, we are also trying to be smart and realistic in the support we share with Tim and Alex in their college educations - and with other commitments to family, friends and other local organizations that support the poor and hungry.

We invite you to do what you can.  And as our financial situation improves (we hope), we pray that we can increase our gifts to the ministry of Our Church - Trinity!

Financial Update

Three years ago, those who participated in Trinity's last Capital Campaign pledged to give $530,000... yet to date, we have EXCEEDED this goal and have given gifts of $640,000!

Thanks be to God for your generosity!
That leaves a mortgage balance of approximately $565,000.

Mortgage Debt is never an exciting motivation for giving - yet the reality is, as we payoff our commitments on the $1.2 million dollar addition and renovations to Trinity - we will also be a financially-healthier congregation, and be able to accomplish even more for those in greatest need - AND continue to share in the blessings of such a wonderful worshiping community of faith.

So, once again - Thank You for your support, gifts and prayers as we move forward with bold grace and deep thankfulness... together.

Doing What We Do Best!
Trinity's Vision continues to include our greatest support for those in our community in greatest need - these include the youth, the poor, the oppressed and abused, those without a home or place to live, those in jail, and those who struggle with illness and disease.

We strive to keep our church open to the community - for its Use, for Worship and the receiving of Holy Communion... we strive to remain open to issues and opinions that differ from our own interpretations and theology - new ways to interpret and implement God's Word
(ways that might increase our faithfulness and outreach and forgiveness and love!)

And ways that strengthen US, Trinity Lutheran Church -  as a community of faith.

Trinity is a growing community of faith that seeks to intersect the Word of God with our daily lives and needs.  We seek to serve, grow, pray and show mercy - in the same ways that Jesus shared with us.  And always to remain open to the Surprise of the Gospel (obviously, Adam Plumstead is showing a bit of surprise in the picture above - at a Frankfort football game on Halloween) .

God Bless You - and I hope to see you this coming Sunday!
(Or at least the next time you're in town),

Christ's Love,  Pastor Rick.
