In Memoriam: Dr. Brian O'Leary
Eulogy by Don Rolando Araya
I think Brian O'Leary does not need anything at this moment, but I am sure he will be grateful for our love and for the light we invoke in his name. He passed away and that adds sadness to the general situation, but his teachings also give us hope for the emergence of a new civilization.
He shared with us, here at the Sat Yoga Institute, just a few weeks ago. Many of you had the opportunity of listening to his lecture on science and consciousness, and can testify to his virtues as a human and spiritual being. I know humanity has lost a leader and an enlightened being. I also lost a friend and I feel sorrow for that.
We developed a sincere friendship some years ago. He came to visit me and wanted to know about a recent book I had written: The Road to Quantum Socialism. Brian was a scientist, a physicist, a thinker with long experience in developing consciousness. His interest was a real honor for me and helped me gain confidence in the way of making room for new ideas in the political world. He was already leading a group of inventors and scientists on the ambitious project of a civilization fueled by free energy. He had written several books on ideas "out of the box," related with real innovations in the field of cold fusion and zero point energy.
Brian could have been a mainstream hero, if he had been willing to do the bidding of the economic and political establishment. He was professor of physics at Princeton University, like Albert Einstein before him. He was also an astronaut in the Apollo Project. But he did not accept the rules of a world constrained by narrow vested interests willing to censor research and ideas, and individuals, that could jeopardize their business, even if those ideas promised positive changes for humanity. So instead of being a false hero working in futile support of a dying world, Brian preferred to be a man of truth, a spiritual warrior, working to help bring about the birth of a new civilization. And he decided to start a new chapter in his life, promoting a revolution of consciousness. That led him to difficult confrontations, like the one related with the election of George W. Bush. He publicly denounced the fraud in those elections and had to face a storm of negative reactions as a result.
When he came to Costa Rica, he talked about the suppression of all the initiatives related to the new discoveries in free energy. He remembered a friend who was a professor in MIT and who was told to back laboratory results that were intentionally skewed to deny the cold fusion discoveries of two scientists from Utah, Drs. Pons and Fleishman. This professor broke the unspoken rules and declared that the laboratory results had proved the rightness of these two scientists. Brian always believed that the assassination of his friend by two supposed thieves who broke into the cottage of some relatives in Massachusetts was a retaliation for his truthfulness.
Brian planned to live in Latin America and finally decided to establish a retreat center in Vilcabamba, Ecuador, where he held many activities related with science and consciousness and started an organization called Global Innovation Alliance. Due to that I proposed to him the idea of creating a Global Innovation University here in Costa Rica. Now I have that dream as a commitment with Brian himself.
I have learned many beautiful things in the effort to make my experience a life of consciousness. Now I know I still have to row and row very much, because I confess I am sad, I feel sorrow and emptiness on account of Brian's passing. I think he still had much to do among us, but I am sure he would be telling me that the end of something is always the beginning of something else, and that the finite does not exist for a spiritual being. I knew him well and I am sure, wherever he might be, as a transcendent being, he is still on the same track.
I imagine Brian like Goethe, the great German writer, who said: "light, more light" just at the moment of his death. Let's meditate and let's give him our light.

August Movie Night!

On Saturday, August 20, at 7:00pm, we will be viewing an Argentinian film called
Un Buda. This movie is a Sat Yoga "Classic," which we viewed over three years ago, and which made a lasting impression on all of the students.
Un Buda is the brilliant feature film debut of director Diego Rafecas, a Zen teacher in Argentina. The film follows two brothers orphaned as children when their parents were taken by the military during the "Dirty Wars" of the 1970s in Argentina. Tomás, who is now a drifting and withdrawn young man who experiments with ascetic practices and has an instinctive compassion for others, finds little value in the partying lifestyle of his cohorts and looks for meaning through his personal meditation practice. His older brother Rafael, played by Rafecas, is a university philosophy professor, detached and alone. Their struggles with each other and the world around them in Buenos Aires take a dramatic turn when they find themselves at a rural Zen center.
Un Buda expands our sense of Buddhism in the world today and contrasts the simplicity and purity of the spiritual life against the backdrop of the chaos of the modern world.
