Sat Yoga Announcements
Saturday Night is Movie Night! Philosophy is in the Streets
This Saturday, July 26, at 7:00pm, the Sat Yoga Institute will be screening Examined Life. Examined Life pulls philosophy out of academic journals and classrooms, and puts it back on the streets. In Examined Life, filmmaker Astra Taylor accompanies some of today's most influential thinkers on a series of unique excursions through places and spaces that hold particular resonance for them and their ideas. Peter Singer's thoughts on the ethics of consumption are amplified against the backdrop of Fifth Avenue's posh boutiques. Michael Hardt ponders the nature of revolution while surrounded by symbols of wealth and leisure. Judith Butler and a friend stroll through San Francisco's Mission District questioning our culture's fixation on individualism. And while driving through Manhattan, Cornel West - perhaps America's best-known public intellectual - compares philosophy to jazz and blues, reminding us how intense and invigorating a life of the mind can be. Our old friend Slavoj Zizek, the loquacious Lacanian Leninist, is also featured in the film, appropriately standing next to a trash heap. Offering privileged moments with great thinkers from fields ranging from moral philosophy to cultural theory. We hope you will join us for this intellectually invigorating event. Schedule: Saturday, July 16, at 7:00pm Requested Donation: 10,000 colones Minimum Donation: 5,000 colones If you wish to attend we ask that you please register in advance, simply call our staff at 2288-3294 or send us an email with your confirmation! _______________________________________________________________________________________ Postulant Preparation Class On July 20 at 7pm, the Sat Yoga Institute will hold a rare Postulant Preparation Class. It is intended for those who have demonstrated serious interest in Sat Yoga as a spiritual path, and who may be interested in living at the ashram or eco-village sometime in the future. Becoming a postulant is a pre-requisite for being accepted later as a full disciple. Only disciples will have the right to live at the ashram/eco-village or to be on the teaching staff in the future. Discipleship is also an essential step toward being accepted as a sannyasi. This class is to introduce those who are ready to consider taking their next step on the path of Sat Yoga to discover what is involved. Being a postulant means one is trying out the commitments and the lifestyle of a true yogi. In this class, we shall explain what those commitments would be, so you can decide if you wish to try them on for size. We shall also explain what are the other advanced subjects we study in the postulant training. Joining this class requires that you apply with a short written explanation of why you feel ready, willing, and eager to take this momentous step. Those who are accepted will be notified as soon as possible. _______________________________________________________________________________________ UCR Cursos Libres - Sat Yoga: Introdución a la meditación

First Community Retreat July 29 - August 2, 2011!

Join us for 5 extraordinary days of spiritual growth and transformation as we inaugurate the Sat Yoga Ashram and Retreat Center with the Sat Yoga community students next July 29 , 2011!In our first community retreat, we will explore the meaning of an ashram, of a retreat center, and of an eco-village, the possibilities open to community members to participate at different levels, and engage in the hands-on healing work of karma yoga. But most of all, we will sit together to melt into our divine inner Self through being Injoy! in deep meditation. We will also explore the natural environment of Arunachala, in meditative walks on the land, in the sacred forests and to special energy vortexes on the lovely and holy River Gangaji. The retreat will provide ample opportunity for solitude as well as group activity. In order to make our retreats accessible to people with less financial means, we are implementing a contribution structure on a sliding scale. This will allow people with low budgets to still be able to attend and those with greater financial means to help sustain the Ashram and sponsor those who can't afford the regular tuition. We appreciate your mindfulness and generosity in choosing the category that best applies to your resources. Whatever you can give to the Ashram helps assure the success of our whole project. Since we are operating on a "shoestring" budget, we need to make income from these retreats even to be able to offer more retreats. Benefactor Contribution: $600.00 General Contribution: $450.00 Low-Income Contribution: $300.00* *Extra Karma Yoga duties may be assigned to low-income contribution retreatants. The retreat price includes meals at the Ashram, snacks, accommodations in shared rooms and shared bathrooms, meditations, teachings, asana classes, surprise transformational activities, karma yoga and nature walks. Transportation is not included but we will be organizing carpooling for those who are interested. In order to reserve your space, please give a deposit of $150 to Sat or Purusha as soon as possible. Final payment is due Thursday, July 21st. For more information, please contact retreats@satyogainstitute.org ______________________________________________________________________________________ Ashram Blog Update!
