Sat Yoga Announcements
New June Meditation
Schedule!
Painting by Alex Grey | The Sat Yoga Institute is pleased to announce
two changes in our meditation schedule. First, we will be changing the format of
our morning and afternoon meditation sittings during the month of June. Each sitting will last a full hour. The
facilitator will chant Om Shanti to end the sitting. There will be no reading of essays or
discussion. Please help us maintain the energy field of sacred silence.
Toward the end of the month, we hope you will give us feedback via email
regarding this format.
Another change in the schedule will be the elimination of the Wednesday morning meditation
sitting. This will be done so that our
members can attend the organic market that is held at that time. We have
received requests to that effect, and we do wish to support the organic market
in Escazú. If you wish further information about the market's location and
hours, please call Sadhananda. Office hours at
SYI will begin at 10am on Wednesdays.
Thank you and
Namaste.
Food Forest & Reforestation Project Begins!
The Sat Yoga Sangha is proud to announce the beginning of
our reforestation and food forest planting projects. By the Grace of God, the
planting of our Ashram's first food forest has finally come to fruition. The
Sat Yoga Institute's premiere Premaculturists will be attending to aid in the
celebration, and see that the first additions of arboreal energies are welcomed
and planted in a meditative state focused on Prema, or Divine Love. We will keep you posted on all of the Ashram's sacred
progress. Namaste, The Sat Yoga Institute Free eBooks of Nisargadatta Maharaj! The Sat Yoga Institute wishes to pass on to our
readers that we have discovered that a variety of eBooks by the spiritual sage
Nisargadatta Maharaj have been made freely available on the internet. These
books include the well known I Am That,
as well as several others that you may want to add to your collection. Please click here to link to our Sendspace folder in order
to download these books. We hope you enjoy! Nutrition Book Group: Juicing, Fasting, and Detoxing for Life & The Fasting Path
For this month's Nutrition Class, we will be studying more mainstream approaches to fasting and detoxing with Cherie Calbom, as well as a much appreciated spiritual commentary on fasting by Stephen Buhner.
Juicing, Fasting, and Detoxing for Life is a well researched and easy to read book that guides one through all of the topics mentioned in the title. Nutritional writer Cherie Calbom recounts how incorporating vegetable juices into her daily regimen helped heal her from chronic, debilitating diseases as well as life threatening crises that she has experienced more than once in her life. Calbom's program is much more liberal than other fasting experts, such as Herbert Shelton, and balances, on the one hand, detoxing the body through the art of fasting, and on the other hand, replenishing the body's vitality with copious amounts of nutrients, minerals, vitamins, and phytonutrients to name a few.
The Fasting Path is a much more spiritual take on fasting, written by the founder of the Foundation of Gaian Studies, Stephen Buhner. Buhner incorporates the importance of fasting in all world religions such as Christianity, Buddhism, Judaism, as well as highlighting the role of fasting in many indigenous cultures for major life transitions such as rites of passage, vision quests, and more. The emotional and spiritual issues, so often omitted from the contemporary fasting literature, that take place during a fast are also visited in The Fasting Path, including such delicate topics as surrender and trust.
The Sat Yoga Institute invites you to come and take part in educating yourself on nutrition and fasting-which are greatly misunderstood by popular culture-in order to improve the quality of your day-to-day life.
Intermediate Book Group
In conjunction with last month's viewing of The Matrix, we have been studying various books intended to coax out the more subtle philosophic overtones contained within the movie itself. The books that we have been reading include The Matrix and Philosophy: Welcome to the Desert of the Real, as well as Philosophers Explore the Matrix. Please join us for a lively discussion of all of the spiritual and philosophic correlations with The Matrix on Wednesday, June 23 at 7:00pm.
Premaculture Book Group
Continuing our study of Hidden Nature, the spiritual insights of Viktor Schauberger, and how it altered our view of the energetic side of nature, this month the Sat Yoga Institute's Premaculture class will begin taking this connection even further with Rhythms of Vision: The Changing Patterns of Myth and Consciousness. Rhythms of Vision correlates the intuitions of myth, the ancient occult arts, the mystical and mantic rituals with discoveries in the fields of psychic and physical energy, and explodes our rational concept of the universe by explaining phenomena in terms of vibrations and nodes to which man can, with learning become sensitive. If you are interested in further stretching your mind and all its ideologies regarding nature, science, and spirituality, we encourage you to join our Premaculture class for this paradigm-exploding study on all things "natural." If you would like to participate in this month's Premaculture class, please call or email Sadhananda to order this month's book.
You are warmly welcome to join us for our
traditional Satsang gatherings. Our Satsangs are for the purpose of
meditating in a positive group energy field, for asking questions about
one's spiritual path, and exploring the depths of wisdom we have
inherited from all the world's great spiritual teachers. Satsangs are followed by healthy refreshments from Radha's Kitchen. Read more.... Schedule: Thursday, May 27 at 7pm

The Meaning of Self-Realization
The difficulty in explaining the meaning of Self-realization is that the mind tends to understand everything from within the paradigm of subject-object duality, and that is the very obstacle to the Self-realization we wish to achieve.
That dualistic paradigm, which is illusory, structures language itself, so the very categories of thought by which we attempt to understand ourselves, prevent understanding from occurring. This is the double bind on the symbolic level.
The more intelligent we become in terms of being able to manipulate symbolic forms, the more alienated we become from the Real that lies beyond the realm of symbols. And so we can say that Self-realization is a matter of surrender of the power of symbolic manipulation, investigation, and articulation to the higher power of Presence. Read the full essay...
