In joyful celebration, we wish to announce that the Sat Yoga sangha has in the last week formalized the acquisition of a large parcel of beautiful rural land for the building of our sacred ashram, spiritual retreat center, and sustainable permaculture eco-village community.
 
We are going to hold a meeting next Wednesday at 7pm at SYI to introduce everyone to the project. We will present photos, explain the vision, the mission, and the stages of development, and begin the planning and manifestation of this wonderful undertaking. We hope that all sangha members will wish to take part in this sacred project. At the meeting, we intend to form committees to do research on the various elements of the project, including agriculture, electricity, waste disposal, and construction, and then report to the sangha, and finally, carry out the manifestation of the plans.
 
All students who are members of the sangha, meaning you have formally completed the three-sessions of our Free Orientation Program, are welcome to attend this important meeting. Those who have not registered and completed the enrollment process, we warmly invite you to call our volunteer staff and start your orientation so that you too can be a part of the building of the Ark.

Discipleship Program Begins

The Sat Yoga Institute announces the commencement of a formal Discipleship program.

This advanced educational program is for those who are ready, willing, and able to make a full commitment to their spiritual development, and put it on the fast track. We will emphasize the disciplines, the yamas and niyamas, the augmentation of will power, of virtue, of concentration and mindfulness, and develop the skills of spiritual healing and guidance. We will explore the prerequisites and benefits of the contemplative life. Discipleship may lead to residence in the ashram or one of its attendant hermitages; to advanced training in retreat facilitation, spiritual counseling, and crisis intervention; and to participating in the governance of the ashram and village.

Discipleship is open to those who live close enough to the Center to come on a daily basis; who can visit the ashram regularly for karma yoga and meditation retreats; who have no divided loyalties and who wish to devote themselves to the spiritual life our sangha offers; and who are in alignment with the Sat Yoga vision, values, and vocation. Discipleship is not the same as monkhood. Taking the vows of monkhood will become an option for those who graduate from discipleship.

The program will also involve extra reading, participation in a study group, and regular meetings with Shunyamurti. Please do not sign up for this program unless you are very serious. There will be a probationary period to discover if this path suits you. Please contact Shunyamurti in advance of the first meeting if you are interested in joining.

The first meeting will take place at 7pm on August 10.
