Effective July 13, the U.S. State Department will impose new fees for many of its passport-related products and services. The total cost of a new passport will increase from $100 to $135 for adults. Travelers needing extra visa pages will pay $82. Previously, this service has been offered free.

Wild Dogs of Madikwe Game

After 16years of travelling to Africa's varied safari destinations, I was finally going to focus on the smallest opportunity for me to witness Painted Wild Dogs. This experience has eluded me all of these years. After days of business meetings in Durban, I traveled to Madikwe Game Reserve, located a short 1-hour flight NW of Johannesburg at the Botswana border.
Madikwe is a remarkable conservation success story. Established in 1991 from what was formerly over utilized farmland, the reserve has become a joint venture between private partnerships, government conservation agencies and the local communities.
Madikwe is a large reserve at over 185,000 acres. The game is well established over the past 19 years and last game counts indicate healthy herds of elephant, varied species of antelope, both white and black rhino, and a solid population of lion. There are currently two healthy packs of 18 wild dogs -a testament to the health of reserve, as these deadly effective carnivores require vast territories and a solid balance of available prey.
Accommodations are varied and offer choices from intimate and romantic 5-star luxury to excellent value tourist lodges. Madikwe is a great addition to any Southern Africa itinerary. It is a convenient inclusion for anyone with limited time or those wishing to experience a wide variety of breathtaking African scenery...and this one is the cherry on top!
